Elk Grove is a census-designated place in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 15,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden–Arcade–San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Elk Grove is located in northeastern Sacramento County on the eastern edge of the city of Sacramento. The community began as a small Native American reservation less than one mile from today's downtown area. The first white settler in what would become Elk Grove was Elias Goldsborough who arrived in 1878 and named his land "Elkridge." In 1902, Jens Jensen bought 640 acres (248 ha) of what became Elk Grove from the tribe and organized it into a town under the name of "Eugene". By 1905, Eugene had developed into a major cotton center with many businesses and residences. In 1912, John Sutter founded Sutter Fruit Company on 6 contiguous tracts (now part of Elmhurst) that heowned near to where he now lives - this made him one of the earliest investors in urban areas and also helped establish what would become known as Silicon Valley as an early center for technology innovation. According to recent estimates, there are over 15 thousand people living within five miles (8 km) of Elk Grove proper – most concentrated along Elkhorn Road between SR-14 and SR-160 eastbound; however many residents live further away including Humboldt Park to the south and Redondo Beach to the north. According to 2000 U.S Census figures there were 10% more residents living within five miles (8 km) than in nearby Redondo Beach but almost two thirds of all households were located far distance from any job opportunities or services that could be reached by walking or biking alone or with public transportation only available for those who could afford it; even though about half these residents identify themselves as minority ethnic groups such as Latinos or Asians Pacific Islanders which helps contribute flavor and diversity to local neighborhoods well beyond just those close by.

Elk Grove is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 26,953 at the 2010 census. Elk Grove is located on the eastern edge of Vallejo and its metropolitan area includes the cities of Vallejo and Danville. The first permanent residents of Elk Grove were Anglo-Saxon emigrants from England in 1847. They named their place "Elkridge" after a large stand of elks that they saw near their farmstead on theranch known as Butternut Hill. In 1853, John Sutter founded the town of Pleasanton to be close to his new gold mine at Sutters Ranch in central California. When Sutter's mine failed to produce anything worth exploiting, he sold his land to local farmers for $3 per acre (1/4th mile). The first buildings in what would become Elk Grove were built by pioneer George Walton around 1859 on land donated by him and others who had purchased it from Sutter. By 1870, there were over 100 people living in Elm Grove Township; only six families remained when incorporation occurred that year. In 1861, four brothers - Hiram Armitage, Samuel Fowler Jr., Edward Griggs and Augustus Wright - founded The American Fur Company here with plans to sale fur coats and other items made from animal hair through mail order instead of handcrafting them locally. After some unsuccessful efforts starting in 1865, they finally succeeded with a mail order business which became known as "the great White Eagle". In 1876 they merged with another fur company called Waterman & Price to form Wm Jukes & Sons Incorporated – one of America's most successful commercial firms during the 19th century. The decline and demolition of many 19th century buildings began almost immediately following World War I when war production moved away from Elk Grove while job opportunities improved elsewhere in Contra Costa County; however much later developers started construction using pre-war materials such as adobe bricks and post-war aluminum siding without planning or notification to neighbors. Many structures remain unoccupied today because these developments changed how people used these neighborhoods: now many homes are occupied by businesses which use these spaces for storage or office purposes rather than living in them as original occupants did before market forces changed everything forever! It wasn't until 1978 when City Council members heard about an unused lot next door that they decided to designate it for housing development; this lot would eventually become home to Elks Oaks High School (now known as SBU) . With no other choice left but development within city limits due largely to zoning changes made during previous councils' terms (which favored suburban growth), citizens organized themselves into citizen activists who fought tooth and nail against any type ofdevelopment within city boundaries without providing any specific plan or vision for what this township should look like let alone future generations! However despite all odds – including occasional public demonstrations led by community leaders – final approval was given for SBU's building permit just two days before Christmas 1978! Today there are more than 2000 students attending Elmhurst Elementary School (grades K-8) across three campuses located within walking distancezonationally (just south of downtown Vallejo) while additional elementary schools are planned or under construction nearby including Centennial Park Elementary School slated for completion early 2020 adjacent to Interstate 880 which will make it easy access both Downtown Vallejo shopping districts plus various college/university options minutes walk away! Elk Grove is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 37,823 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern outskirts of Sacramento and is adjacent to the city of Elk Grove Village. The first permanent settler in what would become Elk Grove was John Sutter in 1824. He founded the Sutter Ranch on lands that now include Elk Grove Village and other areas east of Sacramento. In 1875, George Hearst purchased land east of Sacramento from Manuel Antonio Sanchez for $1 million dollars. This area became known as "Hearst's Forest". In 1926, he donated 827 acres (309 hectares) to the City of Elk Grove for use as open space with an expressway running through it. The gift remains an important part of downtown Elk Grove's history today. A park named after him was created in 1961 within Pioneer Park across from City Hall in downtown Elk Grove Village
