In 1923, entrepreneur Harry Weitzel built an agricultural development called Weiss Ranch on what eventually became Jurupa Valley Rd., just east of downtownLos Angeles; he also developed a shopping center there which still stands today - now known as Western Mall. DowntownLos Angeles suffered significant damage during World War II with bombings and fires but Rebuilding began immediately following hostilities ceased on September 2nd 1945 with over $3 billion dollars being given by various agencies including WWII veterans organizations such as VFW and American Legion
