El Segundo is a city in southern California, and the seat of El Segundo County. It was incorporated as a city on February 14, 1915, from portions of Norwalk and Hawthorne. The population was 83,397 at the 2010 census. The name "El Segundo" comes from the Spanish word for "the secluded place." The first settlers in El Segundo were Mexicans who arrived during the Mexican–American War in 1846. In 1851, Englishman John Coyle established a small farming community called Palmdale on the eastern edge of what is now El Segundo. Coyle named his town after himself and his brother-in-law George Pomeroy (1814-1887), both natives of England and residents of Los Angeles County before moving to Southern California in 1851. In 1870, an American surveyor identified a site for what would become El Segundo on land that had been part of Rancho Santa Margarita Mexico grant dating back to 1795. On July 24, 1870, Captain James Flagler purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) adjacent to present-day San Marino Boulevard east of Redondo Beach from José Antonio Delgado y Costilla for $5 per acre ($40 per hectare). At this time there were no roads or towns within 100 miles of Los Angeles so access to goods and services was by horseback or wagon available only through Orange County or inland Ventura County. The City of Los Angeles was founded on November 6, 1898 when it merged with neighboring East Lynwood and South Gate communities which also formed City Hall Square along Figueroa Street between First Street and Western Avenue. This area included much property that is now downtown El Seguno including parts of Globe Park which later became Roosevelt Park after President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved his presidential mansion there in 1938 following his election as president that year; today's MacArthur Park near Interstate 5; original City Stadium across Figueroa Street from today's Main Library building - all now part of Downtown LA; home to many notable people such as Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Loretta Lynn & Jerry Lee Lewis

These cargo flights continued until late 1945 when all airline flights stopped due to post-war regulation prohibiting foreign nationals from owning jets or flying within USA airspace again! On October 15th 1946 President Harry Truman signed Executive Order 13224 suspending all civil aviation regulations effective November 16th 1946 therefore allowing Boeing 727s registered with US Airways & American Airlines [now Delta Air Lines], Pan Am 3 1/2 tonne mailplanes & Lockheed L-188 Electra jet trainers regularly transported troops & supplies all over USAF bases worldwide—this allowed Boeing Business Jet passenger services within USA once again! After years of planning and construction only 250 miles long & less than 2% wide it opened its doors on May 12th 1958 becoming one of largest airports in North America!!! Today...over 2 million people call El Segundo home—-a place full of culture, artistry, motor sports enthusiasts, college students pursuing degrees & families enjoying grilling out together at popular local restaurants

This fort served as a training ground for American soldiers until it was disbanded in 1898 following Mexico's entry into World War I The town grew rapidly due to its proximity to manufacturing centers such as Hollywood and Burbank; however, because of limited land availability, development stopped until the late 1960s when new areas were annexed by El Segundo including Aviation Park neighborhood along with portions of Ventura (Los Altos Hills) and San Fernando Valley neighborhoods In 2000-2001 only 4% of residents lived inside City Limits while 96% resided within City limits plus parts of neighboring cities
