El Segundo is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 116,708 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim Metropolitan Statistical Area. El Segundo is one of two cities in Southern California that are considered to be "gateway cities" for the region. The first Europeans to visit what is now El Segundo were Spanish conquistadors on their way from Mexico City to explore and conquer California in 1542. The area that would become El Segundo was part of Rancho Santa Margarita de la Sierra (now it's part of Irvine) from 1853 until 1903 when it became a town under the jurisdiction of Pasadena. In 1928, during the height of sound stage construction near downtown LA, many businesses located on Third Street between Vine and Figueroa Streets moved out because they were required by then-mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to install outdoor noise limits several times greater than those then in place at nearby USC campuses; these limits still apply today due to newer development around Third Street and Vine.] On July 10th 1930 residents voted by an overwhelming majority (93%+) not only against annexation into neighboring Pasadena but also against incorporation into any city government other than that represented by Mayor Villaraigosa’s office; this action set off a series of heated public debates over municipal governance withinElsgundino over the next few decades]. Finally on December 3rd 1932 incorporation took place with Mayor Villaraigosa as mayor and Josefina Gomez as clerk.[Today] On November 26th 1940 wide-area air bombing began with B-29s flown over Hollywood resulting in extensive damage across central LAs urban areas including Downtown LA; nevertheless no casualties occurred within El Seguno [] although portions both east and west side sustained significant losses leading up to[the end] WW II ]. After WWII ended most business closed down however some families continued slowly rebuilding post war living typicaly close together sharing limited resources such as water/sewage or electricity]. Many people also left for various reasons such as better paying jobs outside San Diego or Riverside County which developed quickly following WWII]. A number small businesses replaced large ones during this time though most residents did not leave their homes completely]. Today there are few if any traditional grocery stores open along main street], high school football players practice at home on weekend mornings before games or departing for other colleges early afternoon ]; hummingbirds live amongst many plants lining streetsides]; parks now offer tennis courts etc.] However despite all these closures/recovery efforts few Main Street storefronts remain open currently almost all services are handled through online/phone options.}

El Segundo, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 97,353 as of 2019. It is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after San Francisco and the seventh most populous city in California. El Segundo's history dates back to 1871 when it was named after two small villages that merged to form one town--Segundo (now part of Paramount City). In 1907, during the investigation into the rash of fires in Los Angeles County, commissioners decided that new towns should be established on hills overlooking downtowns so residents would have easy access to firefighting services. They named these towns "El Segundo" and "Hollywood". The first permanent settler was James Gorman who arrived in 1886 from Ireland. He built a cabin on Rancho Seco just east of what is now Harbor Boulevard. Gorman's farm became known as the Gorman Ranch and later became part of the Hollywood Hills neighborhood which today includes much of El Segundo. The first movie theater opened in El Segundo on May 15, 1915 with a performance by Douglas Fairbanks Jr.. By 1926 there were over 20 cinemas across Southern California including one at 60th Street and Vine Avenue inside what is now called Regal Cinemas Hollywood Park. In 1957, MGM merged with Pathé Pictures Corporation making it one large movie studio system which lasted until 2001 when Viacom purchased Pathé’s stake in the company for $5 billion. In 1990, Priority Video Corporation (later DVD Talk) moved its headquarters from Culver City to El Segundo before going bankrupt in 2000; all their video games remained headquartered there until 2006 when they relocated again to Shoppers World Center near Downtown LA
