El Paso De Robles is a city located in the Mexican state of Baja California and is part of the Mexicali valley. The date of its founding is unknown, but it was known as "Cámpora" or "The Valley of the Kings" because many tombs and remains have been found here. It was named after Manuel de la Cámpora y Pardo, governor of Baja California in 1797-1802. In 1875, an ordinance was passed by the City Council to forbid firing at anything other than cannons from town square. This ordinance became effective on July 1, 1875. On that day, citizens banded together to stop a group of gunmen who had broken into the home of a wealthy man and shot his wife and six children indoors. A subsequent investigation revealed that these gunmen were members of a secret society called "Los Zorros". After years of protests by local residents and officials, on July 29, 1912 El Paso De Robles enacted an ordinance prohibiting any kind of shooting except for munitions for war purposes from Independence Square starting at dusk until 6am daily. This ordinance remained in effect until 1942 when it was repealed due to World War II military activity in Baja California. On October 10th, 1933 two men - Antonio Ramos (a contractor) and Vicente Gomez (an auto mechanic) - were shot dead by El Paso De Robles police officers as they sat inside their car near Park Boulevard just outside town limits while driving home from work. The shooters were never apprehended and no arrests have ever been made in relation to this case since then.

"The growth rate for these enclaves paralleled that for nearby Imperial Beach or Encinitas but slower than Newport Beach or La Jolla," wrote historian Don Ladd in his book "City Limits: A History of El Paso De Robles." "And although there has been some recentrowth in eastern el pasode robles--mainly attributable to Hispanic immigrants coming into town looking for work opportunities--most residents today identify with their original hometowns."
