El Paso De Robles is a town located in the Central Valley of California, about 60 miles east of San Francisco. The population was 7,829 at the 2010 census. El Paso is named after the Paso del Norte River which flows through it. The first Europeans to visit El Paso were Spanish traders who prospected for gold in the region in the early 1800s. In 1851, Captain George Armstrong Cranch and his party discovered and named a stream after General Antonio Armijo y Costilla, Commander-in-Chief of Spanish forces stationed in California during what is now known as the Mexican–American War (1846-48). The name "Paso Del Norte" was chosen because of its similarity to that of Santiago de Compostela on Spain's Iberian Peninsula. In 1882, Tom Kappeler founded an agricultural company called Kappeler & Sons which grew corn, beans and other vegetables until 1911 when he sold out to Monsanto Company. One year later, El Paso De Robles incorporated as a town under the name of Tomball California Corporation with plans to attract manufacturing companies to its growing industrial area. However, this failed to materialize due largely to high costs associated with city government operations compared to those in larger towns such as Pasadena or San Jose. In 1916 Los Angeles County created Rancho Santa Fe land south of Interstate 5 near Baden Powell Dam just north of present day Highway 93 where citrus groves were soon established by Don Pedro Sanchez and brothers Fernando and Manuel Castillo along with their father José Vasquez from Puebla Mexico who bought over 814 acres from Rancho Santa Fe President Pedro Ortiz Parra for $5 per acre ($40 million today). This purchase made El Paso one of Southern California's earliest citrusgrowing communities beginning production on October 15th 1915 when Daniel Flores drove stock southeast from Mission Viejo into central Orange County on his orange truck laden with crates filled with fruit destined for market in San Diego only 10 days later! Today there are more than 1700 trees producing approximately 900 tons annually worthof oranges, grapefruits and other fruits while also employing over 150 people directly or indirectly involved in production including 20% women workers! On November 3rd 1936 President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his historic speech "Our New Deal" laying out what would become America's first Greenberg plan economic development strategy utilizing public/private partnerships throughout most every state experiencing Depression Era hardships such as rural peripheral areas hardest hit especially agriculture since these lands had been part of extensive Mexican land grants dating back centuriesMedicare began being offered free to much needed elderly citizens starting January 1st 1935 federal funding became available designated affordable housing blocks were set up within municipalities targeted at low income residents federally funded employment training programs started providing job Pearce Meadow Farms tomato processing machines new water treatment plant built providing potable water for community

El Paso De Robles is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 17,523 at the 2010 census. It is the cultural and economic center of the Unincorporated community of El Paso De Robles which includes the City of El Paso and all of its annexed rural areas. The first post office in El Paso de Robles opened on July 20, 1875. The name "El Paso" was given to it by an American military officer who named his sector of command after both points on the Mexican-American border where he had fought during the American Civil War. In 1886, Mayor John Dolan built a windmill in what is now downtown El Paso for grinding wheat for flour that would feed his city's residents until railroads arrived to take advantage of this new commodity area. After years of growth and development led by mayor Dolan and others, more than one hundred businesses were licensed in 1928 when town hall moved from its original location on Main Street to what is now First Avenue downtown. By 1935 there were over three hundred businesses in downtown El PASO and many other sections around town as well as several thousand residential units within walking distance of business districts and parks. In 1951 City Council voted to rename it "El Paso De Robles" following approval by then-Governor Pat Brown due to growing sentiment among citizens that regional consolidation into larger cities was resulting in Selective Service draft registration drives targeting minority groups such as Hispanics living near large metropolitan areas
