Many immigrants arrived here during this time including Irish Catholics who founded businesses such as grocery stores, breweries, wineries and hotel operations; Italian American laborers hired by local farmers; Germans who worked in local shops and factories; Japanese Americans brought over primarily for agriculture but also skilled labor at shipyards; African Americans working at cotton plantations; Asiatic women domestic servants;and Spanish men prospectors looking for oil and mineral rights across deserts east of Baja California

In 1847 John Sutter established his sheep ranch at present-day downtown El Paso de Robles when he bought 5,000 acres (20 km2) of Rancho Rinconada from Antonio Bocanegra. At its peak cattle ranching was one of the largest industries in town and production increased during World War II when millions of dollars were exchanged through bartering between ranchers and producers in order to get feed for war horses and other military needs. Today there are only a few small tenant farms scattered throughout town while much of the original infrastructure remains intact including some buildings from before 1907 such as Mission San José del Rio Grande Chapel (now known as Cathedral Basilica). A number of important events took place around this time in history that have influenced El Paso De Robles today: On July 14, 1865 local militia killed 20 Apache raiders near today’s downtown; November 21st – December 2nd 1865 saw America’s entry into World War I with General Ulysses S Grant proclamation giving all men over 25 authorized to carry arms; December 15th 1929 – January 10th 1930 saw receipt by President Herbert Hoover for $5 million donation towards building University Hospital; February 26th 1951 - May 3rd 1951 saw installation as Mayor Ralph Jugendhorn’s City Hall; October 29th 1957 - November 6teenth 1957 saw initiation into American Bar Association by then Mayor Harry Freeland along with future Mayor Bob Burns; February 1st 1959 - March 4th 1959 saw establishment of Heritage Committee formed to promote historical preservation within town limits; on November 6teenth 1969 incorporation occurred under name “El Paso De Robles Incorporated” following passage by State Legislature providing Charter Amendment allowing full civic rights including voting representation at all levels without restriction based on race or sex
