El Paso De Robles is a small town in El Paso County, California, United States. It is located on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley and about south of Modesto. The population was 7,838 as of 2010. The first gun lights were used by frontier settlers in 1853 to guide snipers during the Mexican-American War. A company of riflemen from El Paso De Robles formed the 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment in 1858 and served under General Antonio López de Santa Anna at Buena Vista Creek and Chapultepec Park. In 1861, American forces captured El Paso De Robles after a three-day siege with artillery and cavalry support from Captain George H. Steele's 1st Cavalry Regiment. On October 8, 1861, General James Kenedy ordered Lieutenant Colonel John Tilton to garrison the town while he prepared to march against Mexico City. Tilton reported that he had no guns or ammunition for his men and requested reinforcements from Captain Steele's regiment but they were not available until November 6 when they arrived under orders from General Kearny to withdraw before Mexican positions could be reinforced. On January 3 1862 Major James Buren led an infantry brigade into town from Northern California under command of Brigadier General John Pemberton in order to suppress insurrectionists among badge test subjects who had taken up arms against their government because of racial prejudice towards Native Americans; this action marks the start of what would become known as "Pemberton's Invasion". The flag flying over City Hall was lowered on February 10 1865 following US military occupation which ended Mexican rule over most of what is now El Paso County (except for some Ranchos La Venta and Rinconada) according to Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed on February 20 1865 between US President Abraham Lincoln and Mexico’s Emperor Maximilian I that ceded all present-day Ute Mountain Apache lands east of Rio Grande River back to Mexico including all settlements west thereof including those near modern-day Juárez City—the last such attempt by any country other than Great Britain at revoking sovereignty over Native American land within its borders (and also included areas near Alice Springs adjacent NT). It was founded in 1868 by Mormon settlers and has been continuously inhabited since that time. The town had a population of only 227 people when it was designated as a census-designated place (CDP) in 1990. The CDP now has a population of 5,752 people. The history of El Paso De Robles began with Mormon settlers who arrived here between 1868 and 1870. At first they built small huts on the banks of the Rio Grande River. They named their new settlement after their main colony in Utah, Tecumseh County, Missouri. In 1875, some of these pioneers decided to move further upriver and establish what would become El Paso De Robles – its current location on the east bank of the river just south of its original site). In 1910, during World War I, many American soldiers were stationed at Camp Roberts near present-day Rancho San Antonio east of El Paso De Robles. While there they built several large military hospitals which continue to serve today: Camp Roberts Veterans Affairs Hospital and Camp Roberts Reconciliation Center are both located within the boundaries of El Paso De Robles CDP. In 1950, following passage by Congress Of The United States v Reed decision (486 U.S.) affecting public housing developments throughout California, development commenced for what would become known as "the community." This consisted of four brick buildings on nine acres at 505 North Main Street in downtown El PasoDeRobles – one block north of Broadway Avenue – which served as both business and social center for residents and businesses adjacent to it including A & P grocery store; First National Bank; Masonic Temple No 2; News-Press building; post office; gas station/restaurant; auto parts store; health clinic (now St Luke's Medical Center); library (now Smith Library); elementary school (now Chavez Elementary School); high school (now John F Kennedy High School). As more units were constructed over time, services became inadequate or unavailable within certain areas such as libraries which were unable to keep up with growth or expand into other disciplines like art or music because space was tight inside each building due to limited parking spaces available outside each lot where construction proceeded unabated at all hours day or night despite complaints from residents not only about traffic congestion but also noise levels created by construction activities themselves
