El Paso De Robles is a small town located in Imperial County, California, United States. The community was founded in 1887 by Anglo-Americans who arrived fleeing the Mexican Revolution. The name is derived from Spanish for "the crossing of the river". It lies about halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles on Interstate 10, east of Palmdale and west of Lancaster. The first post office in El Paso De Robles was established in 1891. In 1907, the town became an incorporated village with a population of 100. By 1912, it had increased to 200 people and by 1916 it had reached 300 people. During World War I (1914-18), El Paso De Robles served as the military base for the US First Corps Battle of Doña Ana Creek. After the war, many residents moved away to pursue other interests or returned to their homes after being discharged from service. However, during later years some residents decided to stay and start anew. In 1984, when annexing Imperial County into Los Angeles County, El Paso De Robles became part of this new jurisdictionofficialy becoming one of its most populous communities within that county limits although its population continues to decline due largely to suburbanization and truck traffic now passing through its streets rather than coming ashore). In recent years much focus has been given to revitalizing downtown El PasoDeRobles which has seen new development such as an amphitheater/ movie theater/restaurant complex; a new high school opened in 2002; and a large retail complex known as "The Plaza" developed adjacent to Interstate 10 near downtownenance district that includes several theaters various restaurants etc., drawing attention not only from locals but also tourists visiting nearby San Diego and Los Angeles areas who can enjoy Oktoberfestivals in nearby Petco Park or Disneyland while still having easy access to all manner of shopping options without leaving town center .
