Gun sights have been a part of American military history for over 200 years. A variety of different types and sizes have been used in the United States, with various advantages and disadvantages. With the rise of firearms in the late 18th century, gun sights became an important addition to armies around the world. In El Cerrito, California, one of the earliest areas to useguns in warfare was during World War II when U.S. Marines used .50 caliber machine guns on shore installations on Isla San Vicente in Leyte Province. The guns were adapted from British Pattern 671 naval rifles and mounted on large concrete platforms called "gun mounts." The Type 2 Gun Sight (GSU) by Rheinmetall was introduced in 1942 as a sighting device for thesemounted guns. It consisted of a metal or plastic housing with two adjustable circles that could be moved along any angle up to 45 degrees allowing soldiers to line up their fire onto targets at long range without having to move their arms much. This sight allowed greatly improved accuracy at ranges beyond 500 yards which was necessary for firing Support Weapons such as mortars and artillery pieces ashore while under heavy fire from Japanese forces ashore

El Cerrito is located in Contra Costa County, California and it is the most populous city in the county. The population of El Cerrito was estimated to be over 100,000 people as of 2016. It sits on a peninsula formed by two arms of the San Francisco Bay and its climate is Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters. The first Europeans to visit El Cerrito were Spanish traders looking for opportunities to trade with Asia. They discovered springs here that provided water for their horses and mules and also supported palms, coffee, oranges, tomatoes, nuts, chilies and other vegetables. In 1776 Captain George Vancouver explored this area when he sailed from China through the Golden Gate. He named it Juan Bautista de Anza’s Peninsula after his brother-in-law who had been captain of a ship called La Democracia en route from Mexico City to Stockton (now Sacramento). In 1814 Lieutenant James Kapp built Fort Point on an arm of Point Reyes National Seashore which he named in honor of Commodore John Cushing who had commanded the squadron that landed at Monterey Bay on July 21st, 1813 during Mexican War I. In 1846 General Mariano Jadraves captured El Cerrito while besieging Puebla because they were blockading Alta California under war conditions following Mexico’s defeat at Buena Vista Battle Field in November 1840. American forces burned down much of downtown including Fort Point before occupying el cerritos Chinatown as part of their victory celebration on December 12th1846 During World War II El Cerrito was used as a training ground for commandos leading up to Guadalcanal Campaign where they practiced amphibious assault techniques against Japanese positions ashore The population has grown rapidly since then with new housing developments such as Santana Row being completed just south of town centre in the late 2000s

The name of the city is derived from an Ohlone word meaning "place where the sun sets." The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1776 and named it for El Cerrito Creek which ran through what is now downtown. In 1846, El Cerrito became part of San Francisco and was annexed to the city. The first post office opened in El Cerrito on December 12, 1851.
In 1847, California was founded by miner José Reyes and his brother José Hidalgo. The area that is now El Cerrito was part of Alta California colony. In 1850, when the United States acquired California, it divided it into two parts: east of the mountains and west of the mountains. The city of El Cerrito was established on a tract of land east of the mountains in 1851. The first school in El Cerrito opened in 1852. A post office was established at El Cerrito in 1861, and a railroad reached the city in 1865. Many stores and businesses were built around this time including the Central School District No. 1 building (now Pacific University), which became known as "The Town Hall." El Cerritos population increased rapidly from its early days as a small settlement to over 10,000 by 1870 due to its location near San Francisco Bay and easy access to freight transportation and housing development. Businesses such as banks, grocery stores, hardware stores, livery stables/drivers' quarters, breweries and other industries sprang up throughout the city during this time period. It wasn't until 1893 that electric streetcar service began running through El Cerrito providing an efficient way for citizens to get around town without having to walk or take buses or cars
