El Cerrito, California is home to the oldest gunsmith shop in the Bay Area. The shop was founded by George W. Dixon in 1892 and has been operation ever since. In addition to handguns, ammunition is also a big part of their business. Ammunition is used for hunting and target shooting, as well as everyday carry purposes. The first guns that were made here were pistols. Dixon started out making revolvers for farmers and other militias but eventually transitioned to pistols. El Cerrito is a city in San Francisco County, California. It was originally founded by the Russian-American Company in 1849 as an agricultural colony. The city became an important commercial center during the Gold Rush of 1859 and 1860, and its population grew rapidly. In 1870, it was incorporated as a town.
When California became a state in 1850, it was located on the eastern edge of what is now Mexico. The area that is now El Cerrito was part of Rancho San Francisco, which was owned by Junípero Serra. In 1853, when California become a republic, San Francisco became its capital. The city grew rapidly with the arrival of hundreds of thousands of immigrants in the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1910, El Cerrito incorporation created a new city government which lasted until 1916 when the City Council merged into the County government. The economy of El Cerrito has been steadily growing since the 2010s as it becomes an increasingly important place for job postings and housing options in Northern California. The city is home to many high-tech companies as well as large numbers of small businesses and families. There are also several parks and public transportation systems within walking or biking distance of most residents.

El Cerrito, California is a small town located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. The townsite was platted in 1851 by Captain David Teal and Mr. John Blyde. The name "El Cerrito" means "the headland." The post office at the time of its founding was called Niles, but changed to El Cerrito in 1857. The first sawmill on the site produced lumber for Mission San José and Mission Dolores. In 1874, an electric cable railway was built from Oakland to El Cerrito, making it possible for people in the north end of town to buy goods from downtown San Francisco without having to walk or ride horses. A fire destroyed most of the mills in 1886, but a new mill was built and operations continued until 1941. In 1951, ELKTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE (now part of UC Berkeley) opened near the site of the old mill; it remains one of El Cerrito's largest employers today. In 1916, during World War I, El Cerritos served as headquarters for American troops deployed along Highway 101 between Sausalito and Petaluma. The town of El Cerrito, California was founded in 1849 by the brothers John and James Manson. The name comes from the Spanish words "el cerrito" meaning a small hill. The town was named after a rancho that lay within its boundaries. The first home in El Cerrito was built on what is now Geary Boulevard. El Cerrito's first school was opened in 1856 and it remained an important stop on the route between San Francisco and Oakland until 1914. In 1916, the city of El Cerrito voted to annex part of Berkeley Heights which lying within its boundaries. This annexation increased the population of El Cerrito by almost 10%. El Cerrito experienced growth during World War II as thousands of American soldiers stationed here came to find work in munitions factories or post-war reconstruction projects. In 1945, Mayor Charles Wolk established a new city hall at 401 Harrison Street which served as the center for City government for many years. The last resident to leave El Cerrito after World War II was Mrs. Alice MacArthur who left in 1951 due to health concerns about Lead Poisoning caused by plutonium production at Livermore National Laboratory across the street from her home
