In 1906, El Cajon was founded as a small trading post on the eastern edge of San Diego County. In 1917, the post became an ammunition depot and by 1922 had become a center for firearms manufacturing. Ammunition production continued until 1951 when it was shifted to Corona, California. The first airgun in El Cajon was created in 1923 by George Peele and named the "Peele Rifle." It used 7mm-bore rounds. In 1934, Ralph Averill designed and built the first airgun to use 9x19mm Parabellum rounds called the "Averill Pistol." The pistol fired subsonic 9x19mm rounds with a muzzle velocity of over 2,000 feet per second (500 meters per second). El Cajon became one of the leading airgun manufacturers in America during the 1930s. During World War II, El Cajon produced munitions for both Nazi Germany and Japan. In 1948, Wernher von Braun developed his moon landing project at Edwards Air Force Base in California using surplus American military ammunition. After Von Braun's death in 1945, many of his weapons components were seized by the US government and not auctioned off as expected; this led to much criticism from individuals who felt that von Braun stole technology from other countries during wartime without fair compensation or credit. As a result of these controversies surrounding von Braun's work at Edwards Air Force Base during World War II, El Cajon renamed itself "Wernher Voss Gun Manufacturing Company" in honor of von Braun's late friend and business associate at Edwards AFB Wernher Voss
El Cajon, California is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 131,837 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in San Diego County and the third-largest city in Greater Southern California after Los Angeles and Riverside. El Cajon's economy is based on high-tech businesses and services, with major companies such as Qualcomm, Intel, HP and Microsoft located there. The first Europeans to see what lay beyond Point Loma were Spanish missionaries who landed there in 1769. They named it Coyoacán after local Indian chief Canute of England who had helped them expel an indigenous people from that area some years earlier. The first European settlement here was by Mexicans who founded Mission San José de la Union in 1821; they called it La Jolla because of its jagged hills nearby. In 1882, part of neighboring Torrey Pines became El Cajon when Rancho Santa Fe sold its land east of Interstate 5 to John Dominguez and others for $1 million dollars (the equivalent of about $200 million today). In 1870s El Cajon also became home to two rich gold rush towns which sprung up around nearby Sinaloa Creek: Durango and Escondido (now part of Vista Hermosa). But these days much of downtown El Cajon’s commercial activity takes place off Broadway Street just west of Via De Los Angeles Boulevard (formerly Lincoln Avenue), where restaurants like Olive Garden, Subway and Wendy’s are all located along one stretch that has long been known as “The strip” because so many businesses line both sides thereof – making this one stop you won’t want to miss if you love food shopping or nightlife!

El Cajon is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 121,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up El Cajon was first settled by the Kumeyaay people in the early 18th century. The name "Cajon" is derived from their word "kaha", meaning 'deep water'. A wharf and shipping dock were built on what is now Harbor Island in 1798 by Manuel Nieto and others who founded Rancho Viejo del Norte (later Rancho San Diego). In 1821, José Gabriel María Pico moved his family to El Cajon from Mission Valley to take advantage of new irrigation systems being developed there. They named their new town after Captain José Antonio de Alvarado's ship La Conchita which had stopped at El Cajon Bay on its way to Mazatlán, Mexico during the Mexican–American War. El Cajon became an agricultural center with growing wine grapes and other crops such as almonds, olives, citrus fruits, potatoes and cotton; however it also became a commercial center with several stores and hotels opening up during this time. In 1907 the first automobile dealership opened in town when Harry Hines opened his Original Equipment Company store at 1115 E Coast Ave., one of several such businesses dotting downtown El Cajon during those years. By 1919 there were over 20 businesses in town serving a population of around 100 residents who worked out of various storefronts throughout downtown including three banks: First National Bank & Trust Company (founded 1912), American National Bank (founded 1913) and Farmers State Bank (founded 1913). In 1925 City Councilwoman Mrs. Anna Mudd petitioned for incorporation as a city but it never happened because then-Mayor John Foyhardt opposed any kind of government controls over businessowners within city boundaries while he continued to serve as Mayor pro tempore until he was elected Governor Norris Wilbur on November 3, 1926. During World War II both civilian aircraft production plants located at Point Loma Naval Air Station outside San Diego County operated out of El Cajon; these got their start when Army Air Forces Lt./ Maj.(USNR) Clarence Healey assigned his Consolidated B-24 Liberator factory #1(N910DX) to be built near Point Loma AFB while he served as Commander thereof; construction began May 25th 1945 under contract number USMC Ser# 44-62622 & went through without incident until September 8th 1945 when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor resulting in America entering World War II After America entered World War II local businesses closed but restarted due to post war rebound economy which lasted into 1949 when all but two banks failed due to lack of demand for money certificates following Korean Conflict which ended on July 27th 1949 . However few problems arose thereafter with community gradually coming back together again ..... until Wednesday nightmarish attack occurred that left 3 dead & 14 injured inside Alfred Dutton Middle School where students were practicing for football game tomorrow against fellow school district students
El Cajon's rich history began with the arrival of Europeans in 1821. The area was part of Mission San Diego, which was founded in 1769. The mission was destroyed by an earthquake in 1824 and the land became part of Rancho San Luis Rey de Borrego, which was given to José María Lugo in 1836. In 1847, Juan Bautista Alvarado sold Rancho El Cajon to Elias Howe. Howe built a large ranch house here and named it "El Cajon." The post office at El Cajon opened in 1850, and the first store there was opened by Wm. H. Storey on December 12, 1850. By 1870, there were 10 stores in El Cajon and 1 grocery store. There were also 2 sawmills and 1 blacksmith shop in this period. In 1896, Jens Jensen acquired title to Rancho El Cajon from Elias Howe and began operating it as a cattle ranch that would eventually grow into one of California's largest ranches. Over time, Jens Jensen added additional acreage to his property until he had over 400 acres within the present-day town boundaries encompassing what is now known as Rancho La Paloma National Monument (the original name for the monument). Today, much of this land is used for agriculture or other purposes such as grazing livestock or providing hiking trails through ancient oak woodland and mesa desert habitats
