A year later John Dorn established himself as a lawyer in nearby Mountain View; he would later become one of Silicon Valley’s most successful entrepreneurs. In 1915-1920East Palo Alto experienced its heyday as an American industrial center due to its proximity to Stanford University and other leading universities. Major companies located in or operating out of East Palo Alto during this time include Alcoa Company (1895-1913), Bethlehem Steel Company (1915-1920), Krupp AG & Co., General Electric Company (&1945-1991), Monsanto Company (&1966-1996)), Dow Chemical Company (/1964/1995 - present day)), Hewlett Packard (/1970/2006 - present day)), Zenith Radio Corporation (/1947-)
In 1871, East Palo Alto was incorporated as a town. In 1916, the city of Palo Alto annexed East Palo Alto and became its own municipality. The city limits were reduced in 1959 to their current boundaries.
