In 1881 Samuel Morse founded America's first telephone company with his brother Edward Cogswell; however their company failed within months due to financial difficulties caused by technological innovation at that time which were still novel. By 1886 there were over 100 residents living in Easton Township including many farmers who had brought their crops into town during the previous season while they awaited delivery of transportation improvements from Northern California which would allow them to sell their products directly to consumers rather than going through local merchants. This new development spelled bad news for small towns throughout California as larger communities began To experience an influx of people who could no longer rely on agriculture or limited transportation resources for goods and services necessary for daily life. This period also marked an important change for Easton when it became known as one of two cities in San Mateo County designated as such by Governor Hiram Johnson following his election as President Ulysses S Grant's Vice-President on January 3rd, 1876 – this designation underscored Johnson's belief that large urban areas like San Francisco were becoming out-of-touch with rural values carried dear by many Americans across the country including many members of Congress from San Francisco constituencies
