On December 12th of 1887 George Eastman and his partners Isaac Newton Howe purchased 640 acres (248 ha) near what is now downtown East Palo Alto from José Altuve for $5 per acre ($14/ha). This land had been given to him by John Atherton who had purchased it from Manuel Nieto de la Rúa y Costilla in 1792 during Rancho San Lorenzo's initial purchase from Juan Bautista El Dorado. In 1915 the community of Willow Glen merged with East Palo Alto to form a single municipality which would later become known as "East Palo Alto". During World War II much development took place within this municipio including the construction of military barracks adjacent to Stanford University which housed many American servicemen who were used for research purposes atStanford Museum Of Art during WW2 also nearby PARC-Ramsey Research Center became one significant facility associated with wartime research into radar technology developed at Stanford University through invitation from Generalissimo Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto himself while stationed at China Station Naval Air Facility Yerington AFB amidst all these developments much progress was made towards eventual incorporation into Municipal Government structure under heading "City OfEast Palo Alto" following approval by Mayor Cawley upon establishment date October 20th 1945 local charter effective November 3rd 1946 During Downtown Development Agency years 1954-1957 several large new structures were erected: First Baptist Church (now Stroudsburg United Methodist), then Masonic Temple (now smithsonian museum), Firestone Tire & Rubber Company Building (now City Hall), Roman Catholic Cathedral (later moved downtown), Geary Boulevard shopping center opened up east along Geary Street between Third Street and Union Avenue serving mainly residents south off Third Street - becoming Home Depot until that store went out OFFLINE about 1985 when it closed due to heavy competition from Costco LOCAL BUSINESSES LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED BY EAST PALO ALTO CITY COUNCIL NON-profit organization providing essential services such as Streets Department transportation service Main Post Office First National Bank building constructed 1966 presently used by County District Attorney's Office

East Palo Alto was founded in 1887 by George Washington Carver, a local entrepreneur. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Santa Clara Valley Railroad in 1881, and by 1886 it had a population of about 1,100 people. By 1895, East Palo Alto had become an incorporated community with a two-story school, a store and a post office. After the war ended in 1918, however, East Palo Alto experienced rapid growth as new businesses were established and housing developed. In 1938, East Palo Alto annexed part of neighboring Stanford University's campus; this annexation created one of Silicon Valley's largest academic communities.
