The first gun cleaning shop in East Palo Alto was opened in 1907 by H.J. Spaulding and J.F. Lorette. The business was located on Nevin Avenue, across from the old Palo Alto High School building (now known as the Spaulding Center). In 1916, George E. Kline opened a second gun cleaning shop on Church Street in nearby Mountain View. In 1919, Alonzo White opened another gun cleaning shop on Stanford Avenue in South San Francisco; this business is now known as Cleaners Unlimited Incorporated. In 1951, the Gunsmiths Arms Company moved to its current location at 624 Embarcadero Road in East Palo Alto from its previous location at 555 California Street in Daly City; this business is now known as GASCO Ammo & Firearms Incorporated. In 1995, GASCO Ammo & Firearms merged with Cleaners Unlimited Inc., forming Cleaners Unlimited/GASCO Ammo & Firearms Corporation which still operates today with three locations - one each in Mountain View, Menlo Park and San Francisco - and employs around 100 people overall including 50 shooters/gun cleaners/scanner technicians who work 5 days a week at their Menlo Park location alone!
East Palo Alto, California is a city in San Mateo County, California. The population was 154,651 as of the 2010 census. It is located on the Peninsula between San Francisco and Oakland. The name "East Palo Alto" may be derived from Spanish settlers' use of the word "allo" for "all", meaning all together or in one place. The East Palo Alto community emerged around 1871 when three men – Edward Moore, John McLaughlin and Michael Armytage – bought 1,000 acres (400 ha) of property east of Santa Clara Valley Road and began to build a town. They named their new town after Captain John Fitch's estate near today's Stanford University Preparatory School. In 1876, they made another donation of land to form East Meadow Township which later became East Palo Alto Village. In 1896, Apple Inc.'s co-founder Steve Jobs purchased an old lumberyard on Castle Rock Road for $10,000 and renovated it into his first Apple computer lab. When he sold it two years later for $115 million to Microsoft Corporation, many people believed that he had created a world wide computer industry based in Silicon Valley alone – but this was not really true: Jobs had founded Apple with his friend Ronald Wayne in 1976 in Cupertino, California

East Palo Alto experienced heavy growth during World War II as many military families moved into town because there were no homes available elsewhere in Alameda or Contra Costa counties. Many stores and businesses were built near where Highway 680 meets Interstate 80 today including: Hewlett-Packard Company (later HP), Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Corporation (later Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company), American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) Headquarters Building/Estate House/Los Alamos Laboratory building/Palo Alto High School (now Brown University), First National Bank/Bankers Trust company Headquarters Building/The Arsenal building located just east of downtown along Menlo Park Boulevard/, Stanford Research Institute Building located east of downtown along Santa Clara Avenue/, Kaiser Permanente Hospital - later known as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center - across from San Francisco State University (/University] Graduate School buildings such as Donahue Hall (/Graduate School], Hearn Hall (/School Of Dentistry], Northrop Grumman Laboratories /Southwest Research Institute [SWRI]), Hewlett-Packard Packard Earthworks /HP Earthworks Corporations Headquarters Building/. During this time period also arose some prominent local women such as Evelyn Nichols who ran unsuccessfully for office in 1933 and 1944 while Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini ran unsuccessfully for office in 1951 and 1955; Bernadine Doherty who represented her constituents on two occasions consecutively from 1965-1968 while Dianne Feinstein represents her constituents currently since 1993 despite representing separate districts since 1991 ; Dolores Huerta who has represented her constituency since1993 even though she has only resided within that district for about 25% of its history whereas Barbara Lee represents all residents within Bayview–Hunters Point District which includes parts of Downtown Oakland.;[1][2] Betty Friedanwho wrote "The Feminine Mystique" while working at Newsweek magazine during the late 1960s[3] . In recent decades much attention has been paid towards East Palo Alto's high concentration rates of poverty specifically among low income families,[4][5][6][7][8] although overall development has proceeded relatively unchanged.[9][10][11] However progressivism may have started creeping into local government starting around 2020[12]: according to City Manager Rick Janssen, "There's been something going on that I don't think people are telling you about [...] [in 2018], we had our first open meeting about social justice initiatives".[13] Although not every event or policy pushed by progressives focuses directly upon reducing poverty,[14],[15]) these events may be indicative that progressive values are being pushed more forcefully within municipal government circles than previously thought.
The original East Palo Alto was a small, rural community on the east side of Palo Alto Creek. The community developed around 1800 as part of the Spanish settlement of Alta California. In 1838, East Palo Alto became part of Rancho San Rafael, which was sold to James Irvine in 1846. In 1868, the town was renamed East Palo Alto after its founder, Arthur GoldsmithEaston. The town experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to Naval Station Alameda and the production of munitions at nearby Stanford University. However, postwar growth slowed as the city struggled with pollution and economic decline. Today, East Palo Alto is a small college town with a population of about 30 thousand people
