According to the American Optical Manufacturers Association, "the history of optical accessories in Dublin, California began with a single store, The Optics House. Opened in 1936 by Mr. and Mrs. James Dooley, this store became one of the largest and most important sources of optical supplies for local businesses and individuals." The first optics equipment that was sold at The Optics House was a pair of binoculars. In 1942, The Optics House merged with another business, Smith's Camera and Mirror Company which provided sales and services for camera lenses (including reflexes) as well as mirrors for telescopes. In 1951, The Optics House moved to its current location on State Street in Dublin. At this point, it became one of the most popular stores in town for optical products because it had a large selection of new items as well as older items that were no longer being produced. "Through the years," said Mr. Dooley "we have always been able to offer our customers something different each time we opened our doors- whether it was new products or old favorites from when we first started selling optics."
