Dublin, California is a city in the Central Valley of California. It is located about 55 miles (88 km) east of Fresno and 25 miles (40 km) south of Modesto. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Dublin is the seat of El Dorado County. The first Europeans to visit Dublin were Spanish missionaries from Mission San Francisco de Asís who traveled through the area in 1823-24 on their way toarbore gold mines in América del Norte. They named their small ford "Roscada" after a Rosca grape that grew wild near them on crossed rivers they passed while travelling through this area. On July 10, 1829, Don Juan Bautista Aguirre founded Rancho San José de las Vegas along present daymission road 5 north of present day Dublin. This ranch adjoins modern day Dublin proper to its southwest and southeast Limits respectively In 1852 Antonio Carrillo developed an orange grove adjacent to what is now downtown Dublin which became one of North America's leading orchards with over 1 million oranges exported annually during World War II On December 12th 1897 Arthur Ashe won his first major tournament at Wimbledon against Boris Becker 6-4 6-2

The first post office for Dublin opened on December 12th, 1886. In 1923, Douglas MacArthur served as Sheriff of Riverside County and appointed George Dowling as Postmaster for Dublin. This marked the beginning of a long period in which Dowling remained responsible for the running of the post office until his retirement in 1986. In 1988, Ireland-born Mayor John J. McMahon announced plans to make Dublin an international cultural center that would include an arts center and a shopping mall dedicated to Irish culture and products. The project met with mixed reactions from locals who felt that their community had been neglected while developers upgraded other parts of town while they were sacrificing their core values. However, McMahon later decided against pursuing the idea and it stalled out until 2002 when he unexpectedly died without leaving behind any children who could take up his mantle
