Duarte, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Duarte is known for its firearms history and because it has been home to the Calguns Foundation since 1987. The first firearms were muzzleloaders which were used by local ranchers to hunt game. In 1892, a man named George Wickersham (1859-1935) agreed to sell some of his rifles and pistols to the city of Los Angeles so that they could be used in law enforcement. This event helped create much of the gun culture that exists today in Los Angeles. In 1911, Duarte incorporated as a city with a population of 30 people. At that time, there were no laws regulating firearm ownership or use in thecity limits. As gun violence increased throughout World War I and II, Gun Control Act of 1933 was passed which made it illegal for civilians to own any type of machinegun or automatic rifle without prior registration with the government. This act also regulated ammunition sales and made it illegal for private individuals to possess more than 10 rounds per pistol or 50 rounds per Rifle/Shotgun). The post-World War II period saw many changes within Duarte as well as within Kern County specifically due to advances in technology such as television and automobiles which allowed greater access to guns and ammo both openly and privately throughout the county. The Gun Control Act Amendments of 1934 outlawed all open carry of handguns except those possessed by state police officers pursuant to an agreement between Gov’t & NRA; this amendment also banned possession any knife with a blade longer than 2” without registered purchase from a licensed Knife Dealer). An ordinance which went into effect on January 1st 1947 prohibited citizens from carrying any weapons other than revolvers or shotguns inside City Limits without special permits from Police Department; these ordinances have been amended numerous times over the years but remain effective at preventing crime within City Limits while allowing lawful CCW holders access outside those areas where their weapon is not allowed). currently DUARTE does not have an ordinance prohibiting concealed carry other then what's already existing state law

The area had not yet been explored by Europeans when they set out from Puebla for what would become California, but it did see extensive Spanish exploration during Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo's 1542 journey through Central America looking for new route to Asia bypassing South Americaan pirates that Blockade Santa Cruz Harbor along the Pacific coast at that time In 1847 Manuel Saenz Purchas surveyed some portions of what would later become Rancho las Boles del Río de la Plata; he named this tract Rancho La Hacienda because he found no water available to farm there until after heavy rains caused flash Flooding across much of Southern Californias irrigation system which included most points within 12 miles thereof; although Don Francisco Palomo located & reported abundance of plenty Of Spring Water at an early stage below Truckee Meadows river or lower Fresno Creek etc., full details awaited wagonloads more men (& horses) . . . The name may be from Spanish "duerme" meaning "to die". Duarte has a history dating back to 1853 when Jose Antonio and Manuel Nieto, partners founded Duarte as a small rancho on the present day corner of U.S. Route 101 and I-5 south of Needles. In 1875, after Rancho San Diego Mexican Land Grant #2 was granted to them in lieu of their holdings sold at auction following Mexico's independence from Spain, they renamed their new rancho Duarte California after themselves and General Fernando De la Costa y Pavón – both men had fought in that war against American forces. They also built a store there which served as an important link between these two towns until 1905 when the Southern Pacific Railroad reached Needles first. In 1912Duarte was incorporated as a city with Ayerdema as its first mayor; it reverted to its original name in 1954 after Ayerdema died suddenly that year while serving as mayor of nearby Upland. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II with more than 20% population growth due to troops stationed here for military training or combat operations overseas; however, much of this growth stopped abruptly once hostilities ended and Duarte’s residents returned home on September 2 1945; only three weeks later it suffered another natural disaster when heavy rains caused flooding which destroyed many homes and businesses around the community including the now defunct Duarte Post Office building (now part of Pioneer Elementary School). Reconstruction began immediately with help from local entrepreneur John Hildebrandt who developedDuarte into one of Kern County’s most prosperous communities through his successful retail stores including Hildebrandt’s Supermarket (now Macy’s), Wawa (later KFC) and Park Place Dairy (now Burger King). By 1960 Duarte had become one of southern California’s largest cities with over 120,000 residents; nevertheless it continued to experience significant economic decline throughout most of the 21st century due primarily to suburban development within easy reachof downtownDuarte thereby reducing demand for goods produced here by locals who were increasingly forced out into poverty by globalization pressures emanating from Mexico City. However beginning in 2000Hildebrandt spearheaded efforts within city limits to revive downtownDuartel becoming an emerging center for arts & culture along side other local businesses such as Home Depot/ Lowe’s/ Jiffy Lube etc., reversing some decades long patterns whereby downtownDuarte lost much if not all its commercial vitality due largely to lax zoning laws that favored suburban development over traditional manufacturing & commerce -an issue duartel is currently trying unsuccessfully to address through several public hearings scheduled for upcoming months
