Dixon, California is a town in Inyo County, California, United States. It was founded in 1903 by Hyrum Wright and settlers named the Pacheco Ranch after Mexican general José Joaquín Pacheco. Dixon is part of the Reno–Sparks metropolitan area. The population was 9,815 at the 2010 census. Dixon is located on the eastern edge of Inyo County and borders Mono County to its south and east while portions of Clearwater and Amador Counties lie to the north and west. The first shooting protection history in Dixon was registered with California State Police on October 14, 1903 when Captain Edward C. Smith registered a gunfight between two men near what is now known as Bingham Park Drive and Juanita Boulevard. Captain Smith had been dispatched to investigate two men who were fighting over a cattle drive that had just crossed into Inyo County from Mono County Captain Smith's Report: "I arrived on scene about 10 o'clock A.M.,October 14th 1903 where I found two men engaged in an open hand-to-hand combat which soon developed into a firearms battle…. After some time both subjects began to run but one man fell back towards my vehicle where I stopped him…. He then made his escape through an opening I noticed along side of it, brandishing what appeared to be a knife." This event would become known as the "Bingham Park Drive Massacre" because three people were killed; Captain Edward CSmith (3rd Lieutenant), Charles Wiegand ( musician) and Johnnie Fleischer (son of cigar salesman). The only survivor from this fight was Johnnie Fleischer who managed to get away before being captured by Mexican forces weeks later during their assault on San Gorgonio Pass outside Arroyo Seco, California
