Dixon and named for his friend George Armstrong Copley. It was incorporated as a city on December 1, 1907. In 1951 it became an independent city again and has since grown to become one of the most populous in the state with over 6,000 residents." In 1913, the San Francisco Examiner published an article about a new optical store called The Grapes of Wrath that had opened up in Dixon. The store specialized in used glassware and equipment from around the world. That same year, Dixon became one of the first towns to be served by Pacific Telephone Company's telephone line. The town's first post office opened on July 1, 1914. In 1916, the town hired its first school teacher, Mrs. Lillie Blythe Hope-Tucker. Mrs. Tucker taught primary and middle school students until her death in 1945. Mrs. Tucker is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Dixon

It has two schools, one high school and three low schools; the only store in town is Dixons Drug Store which is open 6 days a week from 9am to 5pm; and the only bar is Thebarton's Bar & Grill which closed in 2009 but reopened under new management last year.
