Dixon is a small town in Northern California, located about 60 miles north of Sacramento. It lies on the banks of the Sacramento River and has a population of about 3,500. The town was named for Captain James Dixon, who fought in the American Revolution. The first gun magazine in Dixon was established in 1849 by John Sanger and his son, George Sanger. At that time there were only three guns in the town and handgun shooting was not yet popularized. The first issue of "Gun Illustrated" was published in Dixon on October 15th, 1849. walls advertising this new publication can still be found today at local businesses such as Lowe's Furniture & More, Pioneer Hardware Store and Kwik-E-Mart. In 1874 John Hickey started publishing "Guns & Ammo". This magazine became one of the most popular Gun Magazines ever published with over 220 issues issued between 1874-1892 inclusive! In 1865 Charles Daly opened his successful grocery store at 514 2nd Street which soon became an important center for gun ownership and shooting activities within Dixon limits. One could purchase all sorts of ammunition here including shotgun shells (fancy shot), rifle cartridges ( express mail) or pistols from various manufacturers starting around 1860s until well into the 20th century! From 1898 to 1907 Jerry Purdy edited "Gun World" which functioned more as a trade journal than anything else back then! Dixon has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 10,000 years and began to be developed as a farming community in 1854. The first post office was established in 1865. In 1881, Dixon became part of Fresno County and it reverted to Douglas County jurisdiction in 1911. The town was named after James Dixon, an American scout who discovered the site of present-day Dixon on November 16, 1847 while exploring the San Joaquin Valley for cattle trails. By 1850, Dixon had become a thriving agricultural center with numerous stores and homes. A school was built in 1865 and renamed Chico Pacific Union High School in honor of then-Governor Daniel Webster. In 1881, when Fresno County merged with other counties to form Kern County, Dixon remained within Douglas County until that county's establishment as an independent state in 1912. The townsite at present-day Dixon was settled by Europeans on December 5th or 6th of 1800 from parties led by John Copley following their route across the Stanislaus River and up the valley towards Monterey Bay via what is now known as Redwood City (and before that Tomales). Upon reaching North Dome Creek they stopped due to bad weather conditions; but upon further exploration managed to find good water supplies thereabouts so continued their journey upstream for about two miles finding still better prospects before coming back down; finally getting lost again driving all night long! On this exploratory trip many things were learned including river geography which would come into play later when building irrigation canals downstream
