On December 5th 1860 US Cavalry General John Custer discovered and named Lake Coeur d'Alene while campaigning against Kiowa Indians near present day Oroville Dam; he offered US$5 for each discovery but no one came forward to claim it so he published a certificate of discovery which led to the town's founding two years later. On January 6th 1861 Robert Humboldt crossed the San Joaquin River into present day California from Nevada and name documenten officially announced that Gold Rush era had begun with establishment of new settlement there by newly arrived Americans

In 1882, German miners discovered silver here and soon Dinuba became one of America's leading silver mines. After World War II, American troops used the mine to supply munitions during World War II. The mine closed in 1957 but reopened in 1978 as a tourist attraction and today it still produces silver ore for use in coins and jewelry. Today, Dinuba's economy relies heavily on tourism with an annual budget of $3 million dollars from visitors alone. One major attraction here are the mineral springs that provide water for several thousand residents and tourists each day; as well as various museums including the Hinckley Museum of Art which opened its doors in 2001 and houses some of America's most significant art collection including notable works by Vincent van Gogh, Monet, Gauguin, Cezanne and Renoirs. There are also several golf courses located within walking distance of town such as One Green Hills Golf Course which has two holes that reach 467 yards long while Four Bridges Golf Course offers eighteen holes with Driving Range Lengths up to 609 yards
