Diamond Bar was founded in 1887 by J.P. Morgan and Waddell Clark as a farming community named for diamond mines in what is now Colorado or Arizona that had been discovered earlier that year. Beginning in 1949,[3] Schlumberger began operations at Tulare Lake adjacent to where much later Paramount Pictures would film their movie "The Birds". As more water supplies were developed near Tulare Lake - including during Project Gold Rush – Schlumberger began making large quantities of salt from landlocked lizards called shrimps which they used instead of human workers because they could maintain an even temperature throughout their long workweek without risking dehydration or heatstroke during summer months. This new business model allowed them to expand into other parts of Kern County while Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad freight trains continued bringing goods necessary for their plants directly into DiamondBar via two main routes: one along Bloomfield Road eastward towards Chico and then northward along State Route 168 westward towards Bakersfield – bypassing Chico altogether while still delivering goods direct to Schlumberger’s facilities.[4][5][6] This routing arrangement continued until 1982 when Interstate 5 construction diverted all traffic southbound from I-5 near Redding across Central Valley past Bakersfield; this created what is now known as 'The Great Highway' nickname given to I-5 southbound which has since disappeared entirely except for occasional serve-by truck stops located between I-5 and central Fresno
