In 1916, whenDiamondCity became a city, it included all of Kern County and had a population of 1,500 people. However, this population declined rapidly during World War I and World War II because so many men were drafted into military service and few new properties were developed in these times of economic recession. In 1959, when Kern County merged with other counties in California to form Mono County, DiamondBar joined the newly formed county as part of its eastern border area near Menifee Valley Ranch which also included Idyllwild (now Unincorporated Riverside County). From then on until 1994 when it again became an unincorporated locality within Mono County, DiamondBar remained part of Kern County but had no municipal government or police force
