Desert Hot Springs, California is a small community in the Mojave Desert located east of Palm Springs. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of Riverside County and has a local government with a Mayor, City Manager and Council. The town was founded in 1912 by J.P. Morgan as a vacation spot for his employees on the Palmdale Ranch. By 1916, it had become an incorporated town and began to attract people from nearby Palm Springs for health reasons as well as access to water supplies that were then available only in more remote areas like Yuma County or San Bernardino County. In 1925, hot springs opened near the town limits which became one of the first places people could go to get relief from dehydration caused by living in hot environments such as Phoenix or Los Angeles during summer months. In 1929, construction began on Desert Hot Springs municipal building which still stands today and served as both Town Hall (1912-25) and Jail (1926-29). The first post office opened in 1928 and still operates today under its original name - Western Union Station - serving the community until it closed down in 1990 following outlawing of mail service within cities by state legislators during the early 1990s because they felt it interfered with their efforts to regulate business activity within cities without giving away city property to businesses. Today, Desert Hot Springs sees little commercial activity but does have several restaurants including numerous Chinese food places along with several small businesses providing basic needs such as plumbing services, laundry services and home repairs/maintenance services among others. There are also few visitor attractions inside or outside of town other than some restored buildings dating back to 1915 perched atop hills overlooking downtown where you can take pictures next to Native American ruins close by or try your hand at basket weaving done using looms brought over from China during World War II when many families here were working in industry supplying war materials across country thus helping support America's war effort while making good money doing so! It is possible that over time some aspects may change more than others due to global events happening outside of our control however overall this small community has stuck together through thick and thin creating an interesting mix that many visitors find refreshingly different from most major metropolitan areas all around North America!
