In 1926, American Water Company began supplying water to Palm Springs through a system of pipelines located near Desert Hot Springs. The development of desert resorts such as Mirage, Casa Blanca, Diamond Hills, and Sun Valley soon followed suit due to the high quality of life available in this area at that time. By World War II, much of what is now Riverside County had been developed including Desert Hot Springs which continued to grow in population over the years. The war also led to an increase in trade between southern California and Nevada because so many soldiers were needed on both sides during World War II; this also helped contribute toDesertHotSprings growthrate over the years. The post-war era saw increased development around town with homes being built on hills overlooking the spring fed pool where residents could enjoy refreshing summer days or relax during winter months. In 1982, a fire destroyed most of downtown part of town but left desert SPRINGS untouched! Today you can still see some evidence of pre-fire buildings such as timbered walls and bricks used for insulation purposes; however, most everything else has since been replaced by modern day architecture which makes today's scene even more amazing!
