After Yucca's death, his son took over the fort and developed it into a base of operations for exploring the Mojave Desert. By 1902, most of what is now desert Hot Springs was within US federal jurisdiction and it was not until 1907 that US President Theodore Roosevelt created Bureau of Mines to administer mineral rights throughout California’s interior area including parts of today’s Nevada and Arizona deserts (including Yuma County). In 1915, Charles Fenton began Operating Store at Desert Hot Springs as one of many stores established on federal lands during World War I to provide goods and services to soldiers stationed in this part of California during wartime shortages (see: United States Army Service Forces Western Area Headquarters at Sacto Field). By 1918, Fenton had become well-known within army circles as being able to procure anything needed from suppliers in England or Germany short on supplies essential to troops deployed overseas such as ammunition and food. Ranch hands generally did not know about store except when special orders arrived via mail addressed “Charles Fenton” at 910 Sutter Street in downtown Los Angeles; deliveries continued uninterrupted until 1919 when postal service ended up discontinuing all long distance mail service across deserts due to budget cuts related to World War I). By 1925, much had changed with industry expanding rapidly thanks largely to oil discoveries offshore in North America since crops could not be grown near salt water baths like those around Las Vegas where hotel development started taking hold soon after prohibition ended nationally effective January 1st 1920 . A few years later citrus growers set up shop along Spring Valley Rd just east of present day Sahara Ave making fruit available year-round beginning December 1926 with Pomona Pest Control Company opening first large commercial pesticide operation west of San Francisco Bay starting November 1927...Pesticides became more prevalent thru out country thruout late1920s/early 1930s..Hundreds if not thousands OF small family owned businesses got started alongside agriculture production during these several decades creating one large agricultural region wherein numerous sub regional concerns thrived side by side providing key support infrastructure while dominant players moved away seeking new opportunities

The city's current name honors the centennial of its incorporation and is an allusion to nearby Palm Springs which was incorporated in 1909.

In 1868, the United States Army constructed a military fort at the now known as Gillespie Lake while troops were stationed in Southern California during the Mexican-American War. By 1870, Wellsville had become an important trading post due to its location close to both Yuma and Salt Lake City. After Wellsville's incorporation into Los Angeles County, it began to experience rapid growth due to its status as a midway point between Southern California and Nevada. The first hotel built in Desert Hot Springs was called The White House Inn and became popular with tourists because it featured natural mineral water from Spring Valley that was considered very good for health purposes at that time. The popularity of this type of hotel led to other businesses being established along Center Street such as creamery, brewery, bakery, grocery store and more throughout years until 1949 when Desert Hot Springs incorporated as its own city under state law No 7653 effective January 1st that year
