During World War II munitions production roared ahead at FFCC's nearby ammunition plant called "Hollywood" due to its location near Joshua Tree National Park and access to ample supplies of coal and other natural resources needed for propellant manufacturing processes. By 1945 Hollywood had become one of America's largest munitions producers with a workforce numbering more than 2,000 people engaged in various activities including powder Metallurgy; shot casting; detonating explosives; molding projectiles into different shapes; packaging munitions; shipping materials interstate; repairing equipment etc.; collectively producing some 5 million tons of munitions annually! Prior to WWII Hollywood had been primarily a leather tannery where hides wereSkinned & butted then cut down to their component parts which were then sewn together with bias tape or other adhesives resulting in an extremely sturdy hide that could be used again (occasionally). In 1945 they also built a large chrome molds factory adjacent to "Hollywood" which yielded some beautiful products such as ENR Rifleshells chambered for .22 LR rimfire ammo - still very popular today! Desert Hot Springs, California is an unincorporated community in Riverside County, California. It lies at the junction of U.S. Route 94 and State Route 166, east of Jurupa Valley and west of Palm Desert. The community was founded by prospectors in 1902 as a result of their discovery of large Silver and Gold mines there. The first post office in Desert Hot Springs was established in 1903. In 1911, it moved to its present location on the south side of SR 166 between US 94 and SR 162. The name "Desert Hot Springs" was chosen because it sounded like a hot springs that were located near the Virgin River in Arizona. The town quickly became popular for its beautiful views, temperate climate, and proximity to major population centers such as Los Angeles and Phoenix. In the early 1920s, a group of local businessmen decided to develop the area into an agricultural center with citrus groves, vineyards, cattle ranches, water plants, and other commercial enterprises. They named the new town "Desert Hot Springs". During World War II (1939-1945), many soldiers were housed at nearby Fort Irwin until they could be sent home to fight in Europe or Asia; many locals aided the war effort by providing goods and services such as cooking oil or laundry detergent to soldiers stationed hereabouts. Today's economy relies heavily on tourism which is one reason why Desert Hot Springs has seen rapid growth over the past few decades: visitors come from all around the world to see its dramatic landscapes including snow-capped mountains peaks surrounded by desert sunbaked hillsides; lush valleys filled with olive trees; pristine lakes full of fish; cultural exhibits including art galleries featuring local Native American pottery; beer gardens complete with pool tables; restaurants serving everything from pizzato sushiand Mexican food; plus more than 30 mineral shows each day throughout summertime!
