Delano, California is a small town located in central California. It was founded in 1877 by the ancestors of the current residents. The population was 1,491 at the 2010 census. The town is named after General John Sutter, who discovered and named it for his father-in-law, Don José de la Rúa y Ulloa. The first permanent settler in Delano was George A. Smith who arrived in 1878. He built a cabin on the banks of the Feather River and started to cultivate land around it. In 1881, he married Anna Jane Hutton and they came to live in Delano with their children John (1881-1968), James (1883-1964), Alice (1885-1978) and Donald Atherton (1887-1970). The next year, John Sutter established himself as a rancher west of Delano on what is now known as Rancho San Joaquin. This led to new settlement near present day Delano where various farmers established themselves over time including Elisha Whitehurst, Hiram Maxim and Edward Czarnecki. In 1915 an oil well was drilled in what would later become Delano and ensuing production began providing jobs for locals and income for the community which continued until 1972 when refinery construction began making local oil more expensive than international prices which caused hardship for many people living within radius of these new installations A large shopping center called "Mall of America" opened up just east of town along US 101 in 1975 while much smaller developments continued popping up throughouttown with name tags like "Patriots Park" or "Stadium Village." These days there are only a few old buildings remaining from those times scattered around town park or parks etc., most notably one building that used to be called "Red Roof Inn". Today there are multiple restaurants inside Mall of America with several other types retail stores nearby as well as several truck stops/gas stations all within walking distance if desired . There's also movie theaters attached such as Regal Cinemas inside Mall Of America but they're not open anymore due to gentrification efforts by developers.. mostly because no one uses them anymore

In 1862–63 Anthony Carleton built an adobe mission named Rancho del Norte near present-day Delano for his family’s ranching operations; this mission later came under control of Los Angeles County after it was acquired by OCTD from Carleton’s heirs in 1923.) With increased transportation availability throughout much Southern California due to wagon trains carrying goods overland fromasmoothly increasing population centers like Santa Barbara and San Francisco during this time period – including both Sacramento residents who moved there during this time period as well as those who relocated eastward along I-5 – there were more opportunities for economic development outside urban areas than ever before given all these new opportunities available..
