By 1865, bullet weights had increased to 3/4 pound and these new bullets were called “pistol rounds.” In 1892, the government changed the name of these rounds to “firearms rounds” because they were now used for shooting at targets outdoors. Bullet weight was then reduced to 1/2 pound and these new rounds became known as “ammunition rounds.” Ammunition round weight increased again starting in 1906 until it reached 3/4 ounce in 1912. The first post-millennial settlement in this area was established on January 16, 1836 when twelve families from Mexico arrived on horseback to prospect for gold near present day Delano. They named their new town after General Antonio Lomas de la Costa y Costilla who had earlier founded Rancho Atascadero in 1835. The first store opened in 1838 and soon there were four other stores along the Atlantic coast before it became known as “the mines of Delano” because of its rich gold and silver content. During World War II, many people worked at various munitions plants located nearby such as Selvin Arsenal which produced TNT, mustard gas and other chemicals used during World War II. After the war ended most jobs abandoned but some businesses reopened including a grocery store that operated until 1966 called the First National Grocery Store chain before closing again due to lack of customers over time). In 1976 Delano annexed much of neighboring Oceanside creating what is now known as West Oceanside (the City Council voted to annex all that territory). In 1984 John Doerr donated land east of I-5 for a shopping mall which would later become known as Doerr Plaza Shopping Center with anchor stores Sears Kenyon & Co., JCPenney & Co., Macy's Inc., Kmart Supercenter and numerous smaller stores throughout its years of operation including Sears Japan USA finally vacated in December 2009 following an ownership dispute between Sears Holdings Corporation parent Sears Holding Corporation and Japan's Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Limited which holds majority stakes in Kmart Supercenter franchisees around the world) while also developing residential development called Victory Gardens which includes hotels/motels/ apartments etc.. However no further development occurred until 2013 when developer Pacific Rim Properties announced plans to build a 1 million square foot mixed use project containing retail, office space, hotel rooms and residential units on top off Interstate 5 across from Amtrak stations serving Bay Area commuters

Delano is a small town in Kern County, California, about an hour's drive from Bakersfield and the same day's ride from Stockton. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Kern River and its namesake stream. The area that now makes up Delano began as Tejon Rancho del Río de la Plata grant in 1836 to José Joaquín Mora and Vicente Guerrero. In 1838, following Mexican independence from Spain, Mexico granted Rancho San Miguel de Atascadero to Juan Antonio Mejía and Manuel Nieto. The Mora family acquired additional grants of land in 1849 and 1860. By 1880, there were 11 townships in Kern County including Delano with a total population of 21,507 people. The first post office was established at Delano on February 14th, 1881 by A.H. Hahn with L (the letter "L" being for Los Angeles) as the original name; it changed to D (the letter "D" being for Death Valley) on July 1st of that year after becoming part of the newly formed Kern County seat of Atascadero under Jhandel Singh Neumann Addy. On November 15th 1888, Fire destroyed both houses of Wm Fenton near present-day Main Street & US 101 when it started in a dry fire near what is now Tower Air Force Base Road; no one was injured but about $2 worth of property was lost which includes two homes still standing today: One at 319 S Main St., built c 1905 & others at 5800 E Airport Blvd., built 1939 are all gone or have been torn down since then... There has never been any major fire anywhere in Delano until 1910 when there burned down Poblacion Mill next door to Tower AFB Rd.; damage done included loss of 4 homes & 2 barns (& all their equipment). In 1906 General Electric moved its plant from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre PA to Delano - this plant became known as GE’s Polycrystal Factory during World War II due to its use of Crystals for radar technology development! Today’s building #1 on the left side (northwest corner) inside lot may date back to 1916 when it served as a movie theater! Inside lot building #2 (southwest corner), also facing east may be oldest structure still standing here; this structure served as Post Office until 1924 !!! It’s helpful if you have internet access because several old photos can be found online depicting various aspects around this time including construction activities! Due largely to irrigation projects initiated by local farmers beginning during World War I efforts were made by government officials to create an agricultural region stretching along both sides of San Joaquin River opposite Visalia where crops could be grown without fear flooding or Invasions by wild animals etcetera... This region came eventually named “West Side Agricultural District” encompassing portions south past Fresno into Tooele County before coming full circle back into Kern County proper via what is now Orcutt Road just north of current town center dating back over 100 years!!! With increased rail traffic along those lines things got moving pretty quickly especially northeastward due east off railroad tracks onto BLM land while other businesses popped up such as Masonic Lodge #337 operated by Johnnie Wiseman here circa 1912 (!), Hardware store #5 opened 1925 (& later closed), Laundromat #10 open 1926 (& later closed), grocery store #15 opened 1933(& later closed)...) Some interesting note about earlier businesses: Masonic Lodge No 337 Operated by Johnnie Wiseman – founded 1912 (!); Hardware Store No 5 opened 1925; Laundromat No 10 opened 1926
