By 1865 there were 10 farms scattered around present day Delano with an estimated population of 100 people; also 2 stores, 1 blacksmith shop, 1 grocery store and 2 schools. One hundred years later (2000) according to the 2010 US Census there are 7,545 people living in Delanotownship with an estimated population over 10K people! This growth has been due to various factors such as advances in transportation which have made it easier for residents to get around town as well as new businesses that have opened up along with expanding agricultural production which has brought jobs into town.

In 1905, a large copper mine was opened at Peñuelas which led to the development of what is now known as downtown Delano with its many businesses and nightlife attractions including the Casino del Pacifico Resort & Spa and several theaters including Regal Cinemas and Regal Drive-in Theatre.. In 1969, Donnybrook Racetrack began operations there that continue to this day as one of the most popular race tracks in California.. The town has also been home to various other businesses such as two grocery stores/markets along East Avenue called The Gourmet Grocery Store chain started by Harry Shearer back in 1924 which closed down after sixty years but left behind a legacy of fresh produce as well as gifts for childrens' birthday parties..
