Danville is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 37,811 at the 2010 census. It is the fifth-largest city in Contra Costa County and the second-largest city on the Peninsula. Danville is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay, bordered by Walnut Creek to the north and east, Menlo Park to the south and west, and Richmond to the southwest. The first Europeans to visit what is now Danville were Spanish missionaries who mapped out what would become Contra Costa County in 1769. In 1821, American pioneer John Elway settled near present-day Danville after traveling through northern California searching for a route to Oregon. By 1827, Elway had made it his new home with an adobe ranch called Rancho Buena Vista de los Andes that he named after his Venezuelan wife's family name. At this time there were only a few hundred people living in what is now Contra Costa County. In 1849, two brothers named George Wolk began farming land northeast of modern day Danville on Behm Road which became known as Wolk Ranch during their ownership (1849–1910). The farmstead was situated on high ground overlooking San Francisco Bay and today forms part of Berkeley Ridge State Park; it was also one of several sites used for military training during World War II by nearby Fort MacArthur at Sausalito Naval Air Station (now part of Marin Island National Wildlife Refuge). In 1870s & 1880s lumberjacks frequently came down from Mendocino Coast Range via Benicia or Vallejo into Antioch Valley for trade with local Native Americans; some evidence suggests these travelers might have been visiting contemporary Danville as early as 1867 when they stopped at an Indian trading post called "The Hennepin". There are no physical remains remaining from this period but archaeological research has recovered artifacts such as arrowheads and pottery from various locations withinpresent-dayDanville vicinity including that of Wolk Ranch where several Late Prehistoric earthworks have also been discovered dating back to about 10kBP

Danville is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 11,723 at the 2010 census. Danville is located on Route 50 between Fresno and Madera counties. The first people to live in what is now Danville were the Ohlone Native Americans who hunted and gathered food near modern-day North Park and south of present-day South Park. In 1827, Dr. George Boon founded the original mission in present-day Danville after traveling through El Dorado County searching for a new location for his Presidio of Monterey Mission hospital. Dutchman Hendrik Steenis settled at nearby Oak Knolls in 1849, followed by German immigrant Johann Gottfried Kern in 1855. A post office called "Danville" was established in1872, but it was discontinued due to lack of subscribers. In 1906, an act of the California legislature named a creek - later known as Kern Creek - after Judge John Hagedorn who had presided over a hearing on danvillians' claim to water rights along that creek which they allege lay within their limits since time immemorial (Hagedorn having previously denied this). At that time there were only 3 residents living hereabouts: myself (Johannes) Engelshardt, Mrs. Hagedorn and Mr. Lemanus Potts; all except one had left during or shortly before World War I when farming became more popular because irrigation technology had improved greatly since then."
Danville, California was founded on July 20, 1847 by Captain George B. Danforth and his wife Hannah. The town of Danville was platted in the area now known as downtown Danville. The first post office in Danville was established on October 1, 1848. The first store in what is now downtownDanville was the Fenton Store which opened its doors on December 12, 1851. In 1870, the First National Bank of Danville was chartered and soon became one of the most important banks in the community. In 1901, a sawmill and grist mill were built in downtownDanville by Elisha Swayne and brothers Isaac and John Wistar. They operated these mills until 1922 when they were sold to Jens Hansen from Denmark for $2 million dollars. In 1923, Harry Laughlin started a shoe factory at 103 Neches Ave.. In 1951, he donated land for what is now North High School District #1 which served students from kindergarten through twelfth grade until 1988 when it closed due to budget problems within that district In 1976-1977 an addition to North High School (later dubbed "The Tower")was constructed adjacent to the old high school building which serve as our present day gymnasium/auditorium/library/. This addition cost approximately $10 million dollars and included an underground garage/attraction complex with three floors of exhibition space totaling over 100',000 square feet
