The Danville knife company was founded in 1919 by George D. Danville and his brother-in-law, Harry Morse. The company produced a line of kitchen knives, pocketknives, and hunting knives. In the 1930s, the company introduced a series of forged aluminum folders called the "Danville Special." The folders were designed to be durable and easy to sharpen. In the 1970s, the Danville knife company transferred its manufacturing operations from Danville to Menlo Park, California. At Menlo Park headquarters, management continued to develop new knife models and produce limited edition items under the name of "The Old Man's Knife Company." Thecompany closed its doors in 2000.
Danville is a small town in Alameda County, California, located about 20 miles east of Oakland and 25 miles west of Berkeley. The population was 1,983 at the 2010 census. It is the southernmost incorporated city in California and the second smallest by population after San Leandro. The first Europeans to see what is now Danville were sailing along the Bay Bridge on November 8, 1776, when they sighted land that would become Alameda County. Captain James Cook renamed this area "Nimbus Land" on October 12th of that year. The town began to form from lots donated by early residents in 1868. According to one source, "Danville" was chosen because it was the sound a cow made when its calf was born. The name may have been derived from "dane", meaning Danish or Dane's bayou (the river which flows through Danville). One story has it that two farmers driving out on their horses found an animal carcass lying in a ditch and decided to call the place Dane's Bayou after discovering this geographical feature as well as another local name for the creek - White Horse Creek - which they had seen while hiking near Livermore Valley National Park some years earlier. Another version says that early settlers named their community after General John Wayne's father-in-law who died young at sea when Wayne was just 6 months old – Daniel Boone would later rename his entire hometown of Moraga after him! Regardless of where it originated, Danville has lived with its namesake for more than 125 years! In 1875, Danville became home to America's first water tower – built by Hiram Walker Sr., father of Hiram Walker Jr., who later founded Hayward Oil Company and other businesses in Silicon Valley. The tower still stands today and can be visited during regular business hours or visit our website for a video tour! On July 4th of each year since 1906 (except 1903), the town hosts an Independence Day celebration known as "Festival da Vinci". This free event features arts and crafts vendors from throughout Contra Costa County as well as live music and dancing all day long! In addition to food trucks serving up concessions such as hot dogs, pizza, wings and burgers; there are also several dozen displays featuring locally made artesan goods including quilts/quilt racks/cabinets/covers/showers etc.; face painting; Trick or Treating; games like cornhole (yes you read that right), giant Jenga with prizes given away every game; children's parade down Commerce Street followed by fireworks display at nightfall;and much more!! Danville is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 23,912 at the 2010 census. It is located about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of San Francisco and about 26 miles (41 km) southeast of Oakland. The main thoroughfare is Danville Avenue. The town was founded in 1853 by brothers Jedediah and Solomon Danforth on land they purchased from the Rancho Rincon de la Cañada de Laurel—the last large rancho in present-day Contra Costa County. The town was named after Daniel Webster's father; Webster had earlier served as U.S. Minister to Russia under President John Quincy Adams. Danville was founded in 1853 by Capt. George H. Danforth and his wife, Maria. The first post office in the town was opened in 1856. The area now known as Danville was first settled by Mexican Americans, who called themselves "Pueblo de San Francisco" or "Spanishtown." In 1868, the United States Post Office moved from San Francisco to Danville, when California became a U.S. state. In 1915, the town had an population of 40 people and it grew to over 100 people by 1920 due to its location near Interstate 5 and CSU's Bakersfield campus. The city incorporated as a city on November 3, 1925 and annexed part of the unincorporated community of Eastvale on December 1, 1929. In 1951, the city acquired land from Chico State College for a new university campus which would later be named CSU West Valley Campus after then-president Richard Nixon
