Gun targets have been a part of the history of Danville, California for many years. The first target in Danville was a four-foot-tall post made from logs that was placed at the corner of State and Market Streets in 1875. The post was known as "The Battle Post." In 1889, a large two-story frame building on Main Street became the first target to be erected in Danville. It was called "The Matchmaking Shop." In 1923, Gun Club #4 founded by J.B. Herring came into being in Danville and decided to erect their own target range on Racine Avenue north of town. This club became one of the most popular target ranges in California and across the United States. Over time, other local clubs joined Gun Club #4 and started erecting their own targets throughoutDanville. By 1934, there were twelve clubs operatingtarget ranges throughoutDanville. These clubs provided opportunities for people to shoot at various types of targets including artillery rounds, pistols, shotguns, rifles and even toy cannons! A new era began when World War II began and Targetmaster Corporation opened its doors in Danville to provideTarget masters for all military service branches with accurate steel plates measuring 2”x1 1/2” that could be ordered at any time during wartime!

The history of gun targets in Danville, California can be traced back to the early 1800s. At that time, guns were not as common as they are today and people instead relied on hunting tools such as bows and arrows. One of the earliest gun targets in Danville was a wooden post erected at the intersection of State Street and Elm Street. The target was used for practice by local hunters until 1849 when a new rifle range was built just south of town. The first shots fired at the new range were fired by Captain John Sutter from his house on Elm Street. In 1851, A.P. Hiller opened a shooting gallery called "The Star" located on Main Street near State College campus. From this location, shooters could view targets ranging in size from 1/4 inch to 6 inches in diameter. Gunners from all over Danville would come to this facility to take their training class or compete against one another in various matches . In 1872, Captains George Witherspoon and Cephus Hitchcock purchased land east of town along State College Boulevard and began construction on what is now known as "Hitchcock Field". This site was home to many different types of target ranges including an open-air rifle range with 100 yards long barrels, a shotgun range with 25 rounds per barrel, a horsehide dummy (a type oftarget used during Civil War period),and finally a military fortification target course which ran parallel to State College Boulevard between Elm Street and University Avenue . Captain Hitchcock also constructed an underground ammunition storage complex which provided safe haven for munitions during World War I . In 1923 Captains Harry Burden and Clyde Pogue reopened "The Star" after being closed for more than 20 years due to lack of interest among shooters . They continued operation until 1945 when it burned down . In 1946 Captains Harry Burden and Clyde Pogue donated their firearms collectionza Academy Museum which currently operates the old building adjacent to "The Star" AfterCaptainsBurdenAndPogue's donation, danville's first indoor gun range opened up under new management - The Pistol Range - which remains active today

Danville is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 24,812 at the 2010 census. It was founded on November 3, 1853 by Danville farmer George W. Childers and his wife Elizabeth Bowen Childers as a small town named "New Danville" to serve as an eastern terminus of the Butterfield Overland Mail route connecting Sacramento and San Francisco. The first post office opened in 1855. At its peak in 1907 it had a population of 43,903 people. The city's moniker may come from Captain John Atherton's 1795 survey of the area that would become Danville; he called it "New Danville" because it was then part of Rancho Connero (now part of Richmond). In 1854, Gold Rush entrepreneurs James Fenton and George Baker combined their holdings to create the First National Bank at what is now Main Street and then built a plank road across the southern end ofpresent-day Fillmore Street so that goods could be transported freely between their properties and those in nearby Sutro City. This wagon road became known as Main Street/Fillmore Avenue due to its early growth rate; by 1870 it had reached its current length. In 1862, when General Ulysses S Grant arrived in California during his personal campaign against Mexican forces, he found danVILLE bereft of any buildings or inhabitants except for some scattered families living off farmsteads near Mission Creek and Indian Wells creek east of town center. Grant ordered all remaining Mexican positions throughout California destroyed on October 15 upon his return from Mexico City following his celebrated Rosebud Campaign—the largest military engagement ever fought in North America—and this included danVILLE whereupon General Robert Ewing erected for general use within easy distance several brick houses... Postmasters were appointed annually until 1865 when duties were assumed by territorial stagecoaches which continued until 1873 by mail coaches operated by Southern Pacific Railroad Company (SPR) with station at present day Danville Middle School on Sprockmorton Avenue southwest corner Main Street just east of I-80 exit ramp...
