Danville is a small city located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 33,868 at the 2010 census. It is the only incorporated city in Contra Costa County. The first humans to live in what is now Danville were Native Americans who hunted and gathered plants and animals that they found near the confluence of the San Joaquin and Tuolumne Rivers. They built their permanent settlements along various points of land that would later become Danville. As farming became more common, some of these early settlers took up agriculture on their own properties which are still extant today as farms within the city limits. In 1838, about twenty-eight families from Napa County settled in what is now Danville after being displaced by goldmining operations in those counties. These people founded a mission called "Draper's Ranch" on anouther end of town off State Street. This ranch eventually became one of the largest ranches in Contra Costa County and housed over fifty thousand acres of land including parts of present day Danville and Hercules (now unincorporated). The ranch also produced hay, cattle, apples, grapes, wheat and other crops for local markets. Most notably during this time period was when George Butterfield arrived from Illinois with his railroad company to build a route through central California to connect Bay Area ports with San Francisco Bay. He began construction on what is now known as Butterfield Station just east of downtown Danville in 1849; this station would serve as the nucleus around which numerous towns gradually grew around it over ensuing decades including West Allis (1916), Concord (1925), Fremont (1929), Pleasanton (1972) and Danville proper (1978). By 1850, all but two miles of Butterfield Railroad had been completed across Central California making it possible for goods not only between Sacramento and San Francisco but also all down into Southern California via wayland connections like Bakersfield and Stockton; this new infrastructure stimulated growth throughout Greater Central California resulting in increased industry jobs throughout Southwestern Nevada Territory where butterFIELD stopped operations six months later because federal law required trains to travel northward along US Route 66 instead A number of innovations during this time include direct connection betweenDanville Railway Yards & Union Pacific Railroad Depot w/electricity starting May 25th 1865 leading to great increase In passenger traffic nnd 1st electric streetcar service started Jan 12th 1870

It is the most populous city in Contra Costa County and the seventh-most populous city in Northern California. Danville's economy depends on agriculture, manufacturing, and services. The first Europeans to visit what is now Danville were French missionaries who traveled through this area in 1693. At that time there was no real town or village located here as there was only a small trading post near today's downtown streetscape. The first permanent European settlement here occurred with the arrival of Father Junipero Serra on May 14th, 1847 from San Francisco Bay Area to found Mission San José de la Concepcion (now part of Berkeley). Father Serra had been sent by Governor Manuel Michelin to explore the possibility of establishing a mission between San Francisco and Monterey Peninsula. He arrived at what is now Danville about two weeks after his arrival date and explored all but the eastern tip of present day Contra Costa County before returning back to San Francisco on July 7th following his famous journey called "The Day of Gold". A mill operator named John Crain built one of the first grist mills operating within driving distance of where it still stands today just east of downtown along State Route 4: Danville Road/Crain Mill Road. The mill continued production until 1935 when it closed due to competition from other mills around this area. A store built adjacent also closed its doors in 1935 due to competition from larger stores opening up around town during that time period; however, some remnants remain including an interesting building which has been used as a restaurant since 1951 known locally as The Grapesvine House inside City Hall Plaza bounded by Walnut Street (north), State Route 24W (southwest), First Avenue (east) and 2nd Avenue (southwest). In recent years efforts have begun towards restoring these buildings and their associated architecture which includes restoration work done on both buildings fronting Walnut Street while also working on interior restoration work inside City Hall Plaza including restored plaster ceilings and unique brick pews dating back to 1855!
Danville was founded in 1851 by Nicholas Danforth and his brother-in-law, George Washington. It became a town in 1854. The first post office was established in Danville in 1855. In 1876, the first school was built in Danville. In 1902, the first hospital was built in Danville.
