The first time a gun was used to choke somebody in America was on December 7, 1853, when a gunman named George Stephen shot and killed John C. In 1899, an unknown gunman shot and killed Harry Waring during a fight at the old Pueblo del Rio Saloon in Danville. The victim's wife later told reporters that her husband had been choked with a gun by her assailant before being fatally shot. In 1935, two gunmen sprayed gunfire into the air at a dance hall in Danville after exchanging shots with police officers. One of the gunmen died from his wounds; the other survived and was arrested for attempted murder. He would spend the rest of his life in prison without ever admitting guilt.

Danville is a small city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 24,441 at the 2000 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Danville Valley and shares borders with Antioch to the north and Menlo Park to the east. The first known permanent residents of what is now Danville were Native Americans. A grant from Napa County was made in 1853 to James Fenton for land between Antioch and Walnut Creek settlements. In 1860, when Don Carlos Bledsoe became supervisor of Napa County, he purchased part of this land from the Indians for $8 per acre (about US$ today). This purchase united two distinct sections of present-day Danville: those living around Antioch on the lower hills and those along Walnut Creek (now East Menlo Avenue). The town site was selected by Jepson as its capital in 1865 because it had received more mail than any other community in California. In 1870, pioneers David Dudley and his brother John Valentine founded a gristmill at what is now downtown Danville after leaving their previous farmstead near San Leandro. By 1875, they had built an addition to their mill which can still be seen today beside Railroad Alley east of Main Street. Dudley also raised chickens there until 1889 when he moved them to an adjacent farmstead where they continued to be grown until 1914 when they were finally standardized with other American poultry breeds at that time. In 1893–94, a railroad line was completed through Danville Valley connecting it with Fremont then Berkeley; this led to increased freight traffic through town which resulted in development along Main Street including several stores, churches (including one erected by Methodist minister Charles Haddon), residences for local farmers such as Judd Dutton (the father of future Mayor Ralph Bunche) and others., hotels and restaurants later sprang up throughout town center; these continue into the 21st century although some have been closed or converted into apartments or commercial properties while others have been preserved as historical landmarks like Old Mill House Museum & Garden or Church Hill School District Museum

In 1868, one-time Republican Congressman John Sutter moved his family from Stockton to Danville following news that gold had been discovered near Sutro City in southern California. Sutter became a leading figure in early Sacramento Valley senders of water power for irrigation into northern California – including building reservoirs at Glen Ellen and North Rodeo – helping lay the groundwork for what would become Silicon Valley. The Navigation Company built a wharf at Sullivan Bay in 1840 due to improved shipping conditions resulting from new technology developed by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and others; this led to Danville becoming an important center for American cotton exports beginning in the late 19th century The city's industries began rapidly expanding after World War II: automotive manufacturing spawned such icons as Buick and GMC; electronic equipment manufacturers such as Busschleiser and Magnavox produced telecommunications equipment postwar; aluminum production generated Normandie airliners throughout the 1960s; while nightlife drew revelers to local bars like The Satellite lounge until law enforcement crackdowns during prohibition made them illegal later that decade
