Dana Point is a census-designated place in San Diego County, California. The population was 7,867 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pacific Coast of Southern California and forms part of the cities of Dana Point and Oceanside. In 1892, Prentice Mulford purchased land in Dana Point for $1,000. In 1907, he developed what would become Mulford's Marina with docks and a pier for target shooting. His company also manufactured targets for use at military ranges around the world. In 1948, Newport Arms Manufacturing Company merged with American GUNS & TARGETS to form Newport Arms Corporation which continued to produce Targets until it closed its doors in 1982. Many local residents who had been employed by American GUNS & TARGETS went on to start their own businesses that continue today - including Target Shooting Sports (TPS), America's largest producer of target pistols and shotguns since 1978.
