Dana Point was founded in 1887 by Thomas Dana and his wife, Anna. In 1927, George Eastman appointed Dana Point as the headquarters for American Optical Works, one of America’s leading optical manufacturers. From here, Eastman developed new products that helped define American technology. In 1978, American Optical Works merged with RCA Corporation to form RCA/American Optical Works (AO). AO continued to produce high-quality eyeglasses and sunglasses under the banner of RCA/American Optical Works until 2003 when it was sold to Beckett Vision Group. Dana Point is a small town in California, United States. The population was 6,606 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Carlsbad metropolitan area. It is named after Dana point on San Diego's Orange County Coast and lies on the Pacific Ocean about 25 miles south of downtownSan Diego and about 30 miles north of La Jolla (the county seat). The first recorded mention of Dana Point was by Vizcaino in 1542 as "Danae". The beach there started to be developed as early as 1848 when surveys were done for an army base that would eventually become Camp Pendleton. In 1853, Daniel Burnham designed what became known as the "Burnham Plan" for amusement park development at Dana Point. The Panic of 1893 destroyed most business activity in town, but it resumed by 1896 with construction of the famous Mission Bayou Bridge which linked Rancho Laguna to Dana Point proper. In 1926, Hollywood producer Harry Cohn bought land adjacent to Golden Gate Park in order to build his own movie set; this became known as Cohn's Beachhead and continued to produce films until 1982 when that area was annexed into Los Angeles County. In 1957-1959, then-Mayor Juanita Broaddrick proposed turning Dana Point into a open-air shopping mall; however local opposition led to its eventual cancellation. Dana Point has since experienced significant redevelopment with mixed success: two major projects - restoring Mission Bayou Bridge and building a new convention center - have been completed while others are ongoing or still under consideration. Some high-end housing developments have also sprung up around thetown centre but these are now largely abandoned due to low population density and high housing costs relative to nearby cities such as San Diego or La Jolla. Nevertheless, much effort remains focused on revitalization efforts including educational opportunities for children living nearby schools and job training for adults who formerly worked in neighboring townships or counties

This naval base allowed for increased training opportunities for sailors and Marines while also providing access to rich resources available off-shore. Additionally, wartime production at Camp Pendleton led to development of nearby Harbor City as one of Southern California's most important fishing communities. Today, parts of Camp Pendleton remain active naval installations while others have been converted into residential neighborhoods or shopping malls catering to tourists looking for coastal living experiences without having to leave their homes
Dana Point was founded on December 14, 1851 by businessman and politician Jedediah Dana and his wife Elizabeth.
