Dana Point experienced rapid growth following World War II due to its role as a naval base for both America and Japan during their campaigns against China throughout the Pacific War years 1941-1945. Shipbuilding became key to its economy with Naval Air Station Long Beach providing much needed employment during those years; however, this activity gradually stopped due to budget cuts following Pearl Harbor Yokosuka Naval Base began operations there instead becoming world famous for that capacity beginning in 1952 which would last until 2003 when NAS Long Beach closed its doors forever leaving DPH as sole U.S.-based military installation at Ada Bayou Navy Yard located adjacent to Interstate 5 south of downtown which continues providingjobs today..
