Daly City is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Daly City's history date back to 1848 when it was named Folsom after Ulysses S. Grant and James Phelan. It became part of the independent city of San Francisco on November 30, 1873. The first post office in Daly City opened on February 15, 1847. In 1860, Captain John Waddell opened a store in what is now the Financial District of Daly City which became one of the most successful businesses in town. As early as 1848 there were plans for developing a large piece of land east of Russian Hill between Haight-Ashbury Avenue and Tennyson Road known as "Folsom".
