Cypress, California is a small town located in the San Gabriel Valley region of Southern California. It has a population of just over 1,000 residents and is known for its wine industry and its annual Cypress Festival. The first Europeans to see Cypress were Spanish explorers who named it Los Cedros because of the large cypress trees that lined the banks of the San Gabriel River. The name was changed to Cypress in 1821 when Isabella Cisneros de Leon founded a mission here. The mission was abandoned in 1833 but new missions were established nearby including Mission Santa Clara de Asís which still operates today. In 1868, John Sutter discovered gold in what is now Cypress Creek and began mining here. It wasn’t until 1888 that mining was extended inland to include what are now parts of Pasadena and Vernon Streets. In 1909, Raymond Loewy built his first movie theater here which remains one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks today. Since then, Cypress has seen an expansion in its wine industry with numerous wineries opening up around town. The current mayor is Dianne Feinstein and the town has two wards - one for Democrats (and one for Republicans). The economy depends largely on agriculture which produces hay, oats, beef cattle, tomatoes, apples and other vegetables; however, recent advances in technology have allowed for some development within the local community as well as outside interests such as retail store space on Calvary Road near Interstate 511.

Cypress, California is a small city in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The name Cypress comes from a tree that was grown on the site now called Cypress Hill. The tree was first mentioned in 1769. In 1846, John Sutter founded the rancho Las Haciendas de las Pulgas (The Rancho of the Flaming Lips), and began to plant fruit trees on his property. By 1851, he had built a sawmill and other businesses around his millrace which flowed into the south fork of the Sacramento River. In 1852, Sutter's son-in-law, James Wolkart, bought 6 acres (2 hectares) of land between what is now Cypress Avenue and Mission Creek for $6000 giving him title to all of today's Cypress Hills neighborhood as well as much of North Park and South Park Blocks east of Mission Creek. Wolkart named his new settlement "Cypress" after one of his father-in-laws' favorite flowers. Wolkart put up some wooden buildings near where he now lives on Beaumont Street in Clearlake to house workers who were planting fruit trees for him in what would become today's downtown area. He also started building an extensive irrigation system to keep his fruit trees healthy during these early years. In 1856, when Gold Rush fever hit California, many people decided to move westward into this newly discovered gold country because there was no guarantee they would find any gold at all when they arrived in western Australia or Nevada Territory! So many people moved westward that by 1860 most of present day Los Angeles County had been created! Some pioneers who stayed behind succeeded in finding enough gold to start their own businesses but very few families became billionaires like Wolkart did! Around this time John Sutter died leaving his vast empire including Las Haciendas de las Pulgas rancho with its huge fruit trees downsized over time until it became just a small plot outside town center witha couple dozen residential houses today! But even though it only amounted to about 4 square miles (10 km²), Cypress has always been considered one of California's most important cities and remains an important cultural center within its walls today - home to both UCLA School of Medicine and several major museums including The Museum Of African American Art & Museum Of Prehistoric And PrimitiveAmerican art
