Cypress is a small town in Southern California that preserves its gun culture by hosting the annual Gun Show. The Gun Show is one of the largest gatherings of firearms enthusiasts in the country and has been taking place in Cypress since 1978. The history of firearms in Cypress dates back to 1878 when three men, Alonzo K. Barkley, James M. Hogg and Hiram Buford traveling from New York purchased an old cannon for $5 at a public sale in Cypress. They named their new firearm the "Hornet." In 1906, Jesse L. Winchester came to Cypress from Boston with his new rifle company, Winchester Repeating Arms Company (WRA). He decided to open a store there and name it "Winchester Armory." In 1911, Jesse bought out Alonzo K.'s share of Hornet Firearms Corporation and continued to operate as Hornet Firearms Corporation alone until 1938 when he sold it to George Atwater for $225,000. In 1938, Atwater merged Winchester Repeating Arms Company with Remington Arms Company and changed their name to Remington-Atwater Rifle & Shotgun Co., Incorporated (RAMCO). RAMCO continued production of rifles and shotguns under this new name until 1994 when they were acquired by Beretta USA plc.. From 1994-2002 RAMCO was located at 4246 S Figueroa St., Suite 301 in downtown Los Angeles; then Ramco moved into its current location on Smithfield Road across from Walmart Supercenter in 2002. Cypress is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 67,717 at the 2010 census. Cypress is located on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire and forms part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. It began as a rancho called Rancho El Chino in 1854. The city's name comes from two trees which grow near it: The Cypress tree and the Cactus palm. The Cypress tree was first found here in 1858 by surveyor George Hahn and named for Captain James Cook's visit to Southern California that same year. He also noted that "the cypresses are very long", so he gave this location the name Cypress Creek after one of his trees. In 1872, landowner John Sutter placed an ad in The Daily Californian asking for settlers to move to what would become known as Sutterville because of its rich topsoil and good water resources. More than 100 families moved there during the next few years, including many who had worked on Captain Cook's voyage; they named their new settlement after him – Santa Catalina Island (then part of Mexico). The first post office opened in 1870 under the name Sutterville; it closed in 1895 due to rapid growth within San Bernardino County and lack of space inside downtowns like Los Angeles then growing up around them; new offices were opened at 12th & Maple Streets later renamed Elmira Street before closing again in 1898 due to fire hazard reasons #3A . By 1907, most residents had either left or been removed when required by state law governing agricultural production quotas set at that time following decades of population growth across much of southern Kern County not subject to these quotas...
