In 1911, Sudden Valley Dam was completed upstream from present day Cypress Avenue along Mill Creek creating Lake CYPRESSDAM . At its peak capacity it held back up to 99 million gallons per second which caused flooding throughout southern Riverside County including parts of Cypress In 1935, Cyclone Sidney struck Orange County causing extensive damage over much of southeastern CA including most notably eastern Riverside County where Cypress sits A pre-existing water main break opened up behind Sudden Valley Dam resulting in torrential rains that swept through portions of eastern Riverside County knocking out power and leading to extensive flooding before finally terminating nearpresent day Stevenson Drive making it one point open water area with access not only via boat but also skateboarder transportation etc
