After working his way up through the ranks at various companies including Wesson & Co., he purchased some 2 million acres of Rancho San Pablo Land grant from José Joaquín de Urquiza y Robles on October 10th, 1849. From this purchase came one of America’s most important ranching families – the Armijos. In 1860, General Armijo married Anna Maria Romo (1824-1920). They had four children: Francisco Javier (brought up at home), Manuela Isabel (1861-1942), Ana Lucia Eugenia (1863-1941), and Eduardo Santiago (1868-1950). Under General Armijo’s guidance, Rancho San Pablo quickly became one of the country’s largest cattle ranches with operations stretching from Sonoma County to Bakersfield County and including parts of Santa Clara County today. Theranch prospered both during the Mexican Republic period when there was significant gold mining activity along its borders followed by an influx of American settlers during the late 1800s following Appomattox Court victory over Mexican rule Armijo died on January 12th, 1893 due to natural causes at age 83 years old while serving as Chief Executive Officer of his ranch empire; but his legacy lives on through descendants such as current CEO Eduardo Santiago who also inherited many aspects of that family business Anna Maria Armijo remarried Jose Herrera y Morales on November 20th 1901 and they had three daughters: Dolores Rosa Herrera y Martinez (1900-1986), Margarita Heriberto Herrera y Vargas (1902-1984) and Lola Carmen Herrera González de la Cuesta y Gutierrez(1904-) .
