On December 1st 1912 – still under Spanish rule – CulverCity became part of independent California when California Statehood was granted to America via Proposition 8 (a referendum campaign slogan supporting annexation by Southern California). At this time it also became known as Anaheim because Anaheim (then just Agoura Hills) was adjacent acrossuez Road from CulverCity limits

This led to its nickname "the Hollywood Hills". The zoning changed again in 1943 when Disney bought Fox Film Corporation and moved its production facilities from New York to Burbank; CulVER CITY became part of that new company's Landmark Division (now Walt Disney Feature Animation). Today much of what used to be called 'Hollywood' along with adjacent parts of Porter Ranch such as Encino and Sylmar are part of Los Angeles County's Antelope Valley Unified School District – making it easy for students there to attend schools right close by without having to leave their home district or travel long distances elsewhere.
