From 1847 until 1853, when Rancho La Brea began being surveyed nearby, little happened to this unincorporated community other than occasional meetings between local residents about laws and government matters. On January 15th of that year real estate agent Antonio Gomez met Alonzo Horton at what is now 6th Street corner Dean Avenue to sell him land adjoining 3rd Street) adjacent to Rancho La Brea where he had been leasing grazing rights from Mexican landowners since 1836! Three years later on February 13th Russians Captain Dmitry Kuropatkin and First Lieutenant Aptakisov landed at Point Loma near Venice Beach after sailing around Cape Horn; they were trying to find an alternate route home across Mexico without getting too close to Spain through ports like Tijuana or Acapulco thus fulfilling one of Admiral James Cook's objectives during his circumnavigation of South America in HMS Discovery Expedition! After landing at Point Loma they set up their tents among some large boulders located near modern day Malibu Creek just south of present day Donner Pass Road/State Route 118 about 8 miles west southwestof today's downtown Culver City nestled among palms groves northeast Of Paramount Boulevard just northwest Of Lankershim Boulevard As time passed more people came so there were already several small buildings including one schoolhouse usable for teaching children ages 7-12 called Nuestra Señora de Loreto School founded by Father Manuel Menéndez in 1851 . A post office also opened soon after with mail sent both ways between Santa Monica Springs area downriver then upriver into Ventura County under assumed names such as Pueblito Nuevo (New Village) & Pueblito Viejo (Old Village) A sawmill operated byenos Brothers started producing lumber here beginning production on July 1st 1861 The discovery made possible by Commodore Perry's famous visit aboard USS Perry during Isla Contreras season led to increased trade with Asia which caused imports valued at $1 million per annum increase during 1860 – 1865 when American mills produced 160% more wood than European mills did according to Charles Fenton diary entry dated September 10th 1870 while aboard USS Constitution off coast Peru wheat reached market prices thanks largely to new transportation methods pioneered by entrepreneurs John Sutter & Jedediah Smith starting with stagecoach service established April 618 from Redondo Beach up river linking San Diego with Bakersfield

The Tongva left behind petroglyphs that survive to this day at various locations including Mission Peak in Beverly Hills and Point Mugu on Mulholland Drive in Glendale. The area now occupied by Culver City was initially part of Rancho Santa Fe de Cucamonga which was granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado by Governor Manuel Nieto on July 16, 1781. The grant included land for an post office, town square, schoolhouse and other public buildings. On October 20 of that year JohnWilliam Fuller purchased Rancho Santa Fe de Cucamonga from Alvarado for $4,000 with funds raised through a lottery held the previous month. In 1836 Addison Waddell acquired 685 acres (269 hectares) southeast of present-day Culver City along with adjoining parcels from Waddell's brother George Washington Waddell plus an additional 106 acres (39 hectares) southwestward including much of Sylmar which had been part of adjoined Pasadena since 1847 when it was annexed by Los Angeles County as part of Riverside County. This gave rise to oneofLos Angeles' most prestigious neighborhoods - Winnetka - which took its name from two tracts within Winnetka Township: one called Winnetka Heights after Vice President Aaron Burr’s family home in New York state; and another called Prairie View after General David Steuart’s ranch near Burlington Illinois where he served as commander during the Mexican–American War).
