After 1945, there were few job opportunities for immigrants in Culver City because many jobs had been outsourced to nearby LAX or Pasadena airports. However, some businesses continued to operate successfully until the late 1990s when they were bought out by larger companies or closed down due to technological advances or changing industry trends. By 2000 census estimates,[1] CulverCity's population stood at 3300 people; however this figure has since decreased significantly due largely to gentrification efforts which have led large numbers of people moving into areas near Metro stations (Westwood Village being one example). A number of small businesses have also closed down over time including restaurants that usedto serve Mexican food; instead now there are increasingly upscale cafes servingized American cuisine like bacon wrapped dates and steak tartare
