The name comes from Captain John Culver who landed his ship "Alamo" there on February 20, 1847 in order to found Mission Santa Clara de la Joya (now Anaheim) because he could find no other purpose for such an uninhabited island near Pasadena. As it happened, culvert or ravine between two hills had been discovered by Captain Culver and named after him – so Culver City probably derived its name from this initial discovery as well! Zanuck & Mayer Studio[1] - latter demolished but reused within MGM Resorts International complex today In 1957–58 when Interstate 5 was built through Los Angeles County it widened Olmsted Street from four lanes down into three with a expressway running concurrently through town center between Olmsted Street and Manor Road/State Route 1150 east of I-5 along present day Beverly Hills Rd./Highway 101 south of I-5 This increased traffic congestion so much that several businesses closed up shop around Imperial Way/I-5 interchange where I-5 splits freeway northerly into two separate highways concurrent with each other just outside cul Verde Canyon National Monument boundary while remaining open for access by motorists only At about this time developers bought back most all original mortgages on older properties therein which had been consolidated into new mortgage companies following rezoning efforts undertaken by then Mayor Dick Raymond following complaints from residents about skyrocketing real estate prices consequent upon rapid postwar growth
