Morgan purchased the rights to produce and sell binoculars throughout North America. From then until 1912, binocular production continued unchanged by Morgan’s company- until it merged with another American business organization, Parke-Davis Company, which made the switch from high power objective lenses (Holland or Schmidt) to low powerx echelons ( Zeiss). After 1912 there were several mergers and acquisitions within this industry before finally becoming solely owned by Raytheon Co., Incorporated in 1954. The city has been inhabited by humans since day one of its founding. As of 1905, Culver City had a population of just over 100 people. The area now known as Culver City was first settled by Native Americans in what is today known as Echo Park and North Hollywood. A post office called Echo Park was established in 1853, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1881, when processions were held throughout Los Angeles for General Victoria Woodhull (the daughter of John Sutter), many residents decided to move to what is now Culver City because of its warm climate and lax gun control laws. At that time it consisted of only a scattering of homes around downtown LA. The first business opened in what is now Culver City – an apothecary – in 1882. By 1886, there were three banks within five blocks of each other: First National Bank (now Jardine & Hastings), Merchants Trust Company (now HSBC) and Third National Bank (now Peoples). By 1899 there were 14 businesses open along Broadway between 3rd Street and Vine Street; this stretch later became known simply as "Broadway". Businesses grew rapidly during prohibition era due to demand from speakeasy entrepreneurs who could not operate without alcohol-based regulations In 1925 Paramount Pictures Corporation moved into their new studios on Sunset Boulevard across from UCLAcampus which would become home to most major film production companies over the next several decades including MGM/UA/ Universal Studios combined with 20th Century Fox through marriage in 1944 until both studios merged into Time Warner Incorporated following the mergers of several other media conglomerates during the 1990s
Culver City was founded in 1887 on the site of an old Pueblo Indian Trading Post. The post operated until 1892, when it was moved to a new location and renamed Culver City Landing. The landing served as a stop for passengers on the Los Angeles & San Francisco Railroad. In 1893, the landing became the first town in California and was named after US President James K. Polk. In 1907, Culver City Landing was annexed by Los Angeles and became its second city. In 1917, Culver City lost its status as a separate city and merged with Los Angeles County.
